New book by Dr. Dipshikha Bhagawati on literature and film released
Dr. Dipshikha Bhagawati's new book "Literature and Film: From Mute to Motion" was launched at a ceremony held at the Rudra Barua Auditorium in Guwahati. The book was introduced by scriptwriter Akash Aditya Lama at the ongoing Chalachitram National Film Festival, which also featured the presence of notable film critic Utpal Datta and other film enthusiasts.
Dr. Bhagawati holds a Master's degree in English literature from the North-east Hill University (NEHU) and has completed a PhD on TS Eliot, a renowned 20th century English poet. In addition to being an English teacher at an Assam government higher secondary school, she is a prolific writer on literary and film topics for various publications and a skilled translator and short story writer.
Dr. Bhagawati's new book features her criticism of 15 films adapted from literary works.

The city based voluntary organization Save Guwahati Bulid Guwahati (SGBG) condoled on the death of former congress MP Santosh Mohan Deb. Professor Srinath Barooah, founder vice-chancellor of Krisnakanta Handiqui State Open University (KKHSOU), has denied allegations of financial and other irregularities, leveled against him by his former colleagues. In a horrifying development, a poor flood-affected and differently able farmer of Bordowatop locality in Marigaon district committed suicide on Sunday. The farmer, identified as Kamal Nath, reportedly hanged himself in a temporary camp set-up for flood-affected people of the locality. The Assam wing of the Students’ Federation of India(SFI) staged symbolic protestat Dighalipukuripar, Guwahati on June 21 against the UGC’s recent decision to hold NET once in a year. The students’ organization rued that if the UGC implements its recent decision regarding the NET then a large number of students would loss chance to appear in the exam. Presently, the UGC holds NET twice in a year. Moreover, the UGC has decided to decrease pass percentage of the NET from present 15% to 6%.
