Petrol prices crossed Rs 105 in Hailakandi

With state-run oil marketing companies hiking fuel prices, the price of petrol in Hailakandi crossed ₹107 per litre and diesel ₹104 per litre.

The hikes have been happening since the 22nd of last month, when the price of petrol and diesel went up by over ₹7 a litre.

The saga continues simultaneously and petrol price has risen from ₹95/litre to ₹107.04/litre and diesel from ₹89.53 to ₹104.08/litre in Hailakandi district  making the common man think twice before commuting.

Sarif Uddin, who had just bought an Auto, said he had not been in this field but managed to run his auto for some money but this hike has become a burden to him.""With these high  prices of diesel, I cannot manage Rs 300 of labour running  auto the whole day," says Sarif.

Rejaul Karim, a college student describing his plea to the Assam Times, said: "The price  hike of petrol and diesel has become a daily issue for the common man of Hailakandi and we have managed to accept it.The Govt. has been playing the 'no exit' policy like JIO, increases Rs 5-6 in the price of petrol and diesel, at the same time, decreases only  5-7 paise."

Other parts of the district  witnessed slightly higher rates due to distance from the refinery. In South Hailakandi, a litre of petrol cost Rs108/litre and diesel cost Rs105/litre on Tuesday.

Petrol with higher octane levels, the premium one sold at Rs112/litre.Panna, who owns a premium bike, said that he hasn't taken his bike out of his house after the premium petrol crossed Rs 100/litre.He just  manages to start the engine everyday for a while in order to keep his bike on the go.
