Rare honour for NE physician Dr Goswami

Guwahati: The American College of Gastroenterology (ACG) has honoured Dr Bhabadev Goswami, a leading Gastroenterologist and Hepatologist of northeast India, with its prestigious fellowship. The former head of the Department Gastroenterology in Gauhati Medical College and presently attached to city-based Dispur Hospitals, Dr Goswami becomes the first gastroenterologist from NE to be elected for the fellowship.

He is among five gastroenterologists from India this year for the fellowship offered by ACG, which is recognized as one of the largest bodies of Gastroenterology and Hepatology in the world. Enriched with over 14000 members hailing from 46 countries, ACG honours few physicians, who make a significant impact in the field of gastroenterology, electing them for the fellowship every year.

Other Indian physicians, who advanced to fellowship this year from the Bethesda (Maryland) based association, include Dr Sunil Kumar Dadhich, Dr Bhavesh J Patel, Dr Vijay Sharma and Dr Manish Thapar. The list of ACG fellows also comprises Dr Muhammad Adnan, Dr Muayad A. Alkhafaji, Dr Allan W. Barbish, Dr Steven Batash, Dr Scott A. Berger, Dr Tyler M. Berzin, Dr Muhammad B. Bestari, Dr Cherif Boutros, Dr Milutin M. Bulajic, Dr Seshadri Chandrasekar, Dr Mohamad Ali Eloubeidi, Dr Linda A. Feagins, Dr Bhabadev Goswami, Dr Dominique E. Howard, Dr John J. Kim, Dr Anas Kutait, Dr Joann A Kwah, Dr Jeffrey T. Laczek, Dr Marcelo F. Larsen, Dr Anand Madan, Dr Jose R. Martin, Dr Norman D. Miller, Dr Aldo J. Montano-Loza, Dr Samantha Nazareth, Dr Ramona O. Already a fellow of Society of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy of India (SGEI), Dr Goswami is also an international member of ACG, American Gastroenterological Association (AGA) and European Association for the Study of the Liver (EASL).

Recipient of Economic Times Inspiring Gastroenteritis of India award in 2018, Dr Goswami has more than 45 national and international publications, who has made several scientific presentations in and outside the country.

Beware teachers. Former Chief Minister Prafulla Kumar Mahanta’s daughter Prajaeta Kashyap has filed a complaint against Padma Hazarika charging the Sotea MLA with defaming her.In in the complaint she filed at the Panbazar Police Station against Hazarika, she accused the legislator of unnecessarily dragging her name in the Rajya Sabha voting anomalies when he was holding a talk show a private satellite news channel on Wednesday.

The Supreme Court has directed the eight north eastern states to formulate common rules to deal with the cases of racial attack outside the region.Hearing a public interest litigation on Friday, a division bench of the apex court comprising chief justice of India and Justice Ranjan Gogoi asked the north eastern state governments to submit the rules to stop racial attack by the next 7 months.The PIL was filed in view of the growing cases of racial attack on the north eastern people in New Delhi along with some other states. Very recently, an Arunachal Pradesh Student was killed by the goons in Lajpotnagar in the capital.     
Tezpur, of late, has become a safe transit route for a section of miscreants to smuggle unique reptiles.Police arrested two youths at Koliabhumura in Tezpur on Friday after being seized two gecko from their possession.During interrogation, the youths confessed that they were on the way to Manipur after procuring the unique reptiles. Assam BJP president Sarbananda Sonowal on Friday dared Union minister Rani Narah to substantiate her allegation of accepting bribe from Pawan Singh Ghatowar four months ahead of the Rajya Sabha polls.In a statement, the BJP leader who is likely to contest her directly in the upcoming Lok Sabha polls from Lakhimpur, said that the Union minister must substantiate her allegations within 7 days.Sonowal said that her allegations are not based on facts and that never did ne take any bribe from the DoNER minister.
DoNER minister Pawan Singh seemingly is waging war against Ranne Narah after she revealed that Ghatowar paid BJP leader Sarbananda Sonowal Rs 4 crore four months back.Narah said that apart from Sonowal, Ghatowar further paid Rs 1.50 crore to BJP MLA Prasanta Phukan for helping the ruling party candidates win the Rajya Sabha polls.Ghatowar told reporters in Delhi that he would lodge a complaint before the party high command against Ranee Narah.
The BJP panel set up to probe the voting anomaly in the Rajya Sabha poll is all set to submit its report on Friday.Senior BJP leaders told Assam Times that the report would be prepared before the state party president for action against the legislator who intentionally got his vote cancelled.Led by senior leader Mison Ranjan Das, the three member panel grilled all the five legislators to fine out the truth behind the allegations.
