7th Brahmaputra Valley Film Festival 2019 Begins

The 7th Brahmaputra Valley Film Festival 2019 has commenced from Thursday at Pragjyoti ITA Centre in Guwahati.

Renowned film personalities and stalwarts such as Imtiaz Ali, Shobita Dhulipala, Paoli Dam, Karan Oberoi, and many others will take part in the four-day festival. The schedule includes film screenings, interactive sessions, panel discussions, film quiz and much more.

The Festival Director, Tanushree Hazarika delivered the welcome address. Imtiaz Ali, Shobita Dhulipala, Paoli Dam, Pratim D. Gupta, Shiladitya Bora and Nicholas Kharkongor addressed the opening day press conference. While Imtiaz mentioned that the simplicity and the innocence of the people of Assam is so heartening and welcoming, that it makes him want to visit the place again and again, Shobita looks forward to be a part of a film that would be screened at the festival in the future. Paoli mentioned that she was really was grateful that she could be a part of this festival.

An opening ceremony with M Choir from Mizoram performing, took place with the special guests of the festival being felicitated. ‘Shantilal O Projapoti Rohosyo’ directed by Pratim D. Gupta was the opening film.

The movie starring Ritwick Chakraborty & Paoli Dam is about a deadbeat weather reporter & a glamorous and ambitious movie star. When their worlds collide, it turns into a rollercoaster adventure ride from Kolkata to Chennai to Singapore. By the end, a new detective is born.

A short film ‘Aapke Aa Jaane Se’ directed by Shiladitya Bora was also screened beforehand.

Over the four days of the festival, acclaimed films such Daughters of the Polo God, Strawberry Point, Widow of Silence, The Least of These: The Graham Staines Story , Picasso, Jacqueline I Am Coming, Nana: A Tale of Us will be screened.

T for Tajmahal by Kireet Khurana will be the closing film of the festival.

National Children’s Science Congress held at Dotma

KOKRAJHAR: The 27th Kokrajhar district level National Children’s Science Congress 2019 was held with day-long programme at Dotma Girls’ High School in Kokrajhar on Saturday. UPPL ready for seat sharing with BPF

United People's Party Liberal (UPPL) president UG Brahma hinted seat sharing possibility with BPF in the upcoming BTC general council elections to be held in 2020. He reacted to the statement of BPF president Hagrama Mohilary. Mohilary said to medi thta BPF is not going for seat sharing but unification with parties. Speaking the media at Kokrajhar Press Club on Friday, Brahma said that there was only preliminary communication among both the parties regarding unification possibility ahead of elections. He has said that UPPL is willing for seat sharing in the upcoming BTC election. "Door is still open to discuss on the seat sharing and communication", Brahma said.  

BPF-BJP-AGP to continue alliance

KOKRAJHAR: Chief of Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) Hagrama Mohilary said the Bodoland People's Front (BPF) will continue its alliance with BJP and AGP in the upcoming BTC election due next year. Mass protest demanding separate Bodoland

"Create separate Bodoland statehood under Article 2 & 3 of Indian constitution through political dialogue, otherwise face strong mass agitations",said president of All Bodo Student's Union (ABSU) Pramod Boro. Cattle smugglers arrested

Police launched a crackdown on illegal cattle smugglers and arrested ten persons on Thursday evening at Srirampur area in Kokrajhar district. Police apprehended a truck bearing registration number AS-01GC-3837 carrying 16 cattle illegally from West Bengal bound for Bangladesh via Meghalaya. Police  also arrested Arun Lyngdoh and Munna Saikia alias Ikram Hussain, president and secretary of the All India Livestocks Trader and Transporters Association, as they were escorting the illegal cattle truck. Doctors stage protest

Members from Indian Medical Association (IMA) of Kokrajhar branch has carried out a candle light rally in Kokrajhar town on Tuesday evening in protest against the brutal killing of Dr Deben Dutta, a doctor in Teok tea estate hospital. The rally was started from Kokrajhar RNB civil hospital complex traversed to RNB Road, JD Road,fly over and concluded at the same point. Medical fraternities have strongly protested the brutally attack and killing of Dr Dutta. Doctor and medical staffs participated the rally with banner, placards and demanded strict actions to the culprits.
