Workshop on CBCS held

UDALGURI: A daylong workshop on “Choice Based Credit System” (CBCS) for Under graduate level was held at Tangla College recently. It was organized by Darrang-Udalguri Zone, Assam College Teachers Association (ACTA) and Tangla College Teachers’ Unit (TCTU). The event was graced as resource person by  Academic Secretary, ACTA, Dr. Anupam Dutta. The session was inaugurated by Principal, Tangla College,Dr. Prasen Daimari and was chaired by President, Darrang-Udalguri Zone, ACTA.,Dr.Kailash Goswami while President,TCTU Prof. Krishna Kanta Basumatary delivered the welcome address. Teachers from Tangla College, Udalguri College and first semester students of Tangla College (across disciplines) attended the programme.

In his inauguration address, Dr. Prasen Daimari urged the students to be serious and dedicated towards their academic pursuits and stressed on enhancing English communication skills. Dr. Anupam Dutta discussed in detail about the regulations of the UGC BCS, Gauhati University. In his speech, he said that the “Choice Based Credit System” (CBCS) is learner-centric system which  offers the student to choose from a diversity of courses and the autonomy to decide on the place, pace and time of learning.

The UGC has recommended the Higher Education institutions to move towards a CBCS, in order to implement a uniform grading system. Dr. Dutta also briefed the students and the teachers regarding the structure of courses and credits of the UGCBCS programmes. Talking about intra and inter- institutional transfer of credits, he moved on to discuss about the nature and nomenclature of courses. He also discussed about the notion of credit, which a student needs to earn in order to successfully complete a degree. He said that “Credit” is a unit by which a course work is measured.

He also discussed about credit allocation and programme template for all the three disciplines. Furthermore, he explained about the course type and attendance requirement.The event concluded with vote of thanks by Prof. Nripen Boro.

Man sentenced to rigorous life imprisonment

The court of the Additional District and Sessions Judge, Darrang on Saturday awarded rigorous imprisonment to one Nabi Hussain(50) of village Silbori under Dalgaon Police Station for brutally killing one of his neighbours Firoz Ali and then burying the dead body in an attempt to conceal evidence. The judge Thaneswar Kalita also imposed a fine of Rs. 25000 against Nabi in default of which the convict will have to undergo rigorous imprisonment for a term of another one year. Pre-Christmas celebration at Tangla

The District and Sessions court of Udalguri on Friday sentenced four persons, including a women who were accused in a murder of a farmer at Dimakuchi under Panery police station in Udalguri district.
