Bus accident at Sonapur on Tuesday eveing - One killed

Sonapur : One person has been killed and many injured when one bus and one truck collided at 8 pm on Tuesday at Sonapur near Guwahati in NH 37.

The person who has been killed has been identified as Dhal Chetri, Age 35 years. Many of the injured are in critical conditions and have been admitted to the Gauhati Medical College Hospital.

The critically injured people are Arun Vaidya of Sapekhati, Prakash Choudhury ( location unknown) . Sajad Ahmed of Bokakhat, Pranjit Dutta of Birubari in Guwahati, Daulat Singh and Mrs Pabitri Singh of Nepal.

Former bureaucrat from Assam Harishankar Brahma has been appointed as the new Election Commissioner. He was appointed after the elevation of S.Y. Quraishi as the commission's head. A1975 batch IAS officer from Andhra Pradesh cadre Brahma is a former Union power secretary. Despite impartial patrolling there seems to be no respite in Charaipung where armed miscreants suspected to be from Arunachal Pradesh set on fire several houses at Ashinbasti on Sunday night. A rickshaw puller was killed and a minor boy was injured at a crossfire between police and security forces in the outskirt of Guwahati city on Sunday. The incident took place at Sualkuchi when security forces came to see three armed ULFA cadres who attacked them forcing the security forces to hit back. A rickshaw puller Maniram Rabha fell seriously injured in the crossfire along with a minor boy. A hardcore ULFA cadre Chiraj alias Harekrishna Deka was captured at the end of the encounter while two others managed to escape from the spot. A seriously injured Maniram was shifted to the GMCH. A rickshow puller and a minor boy were injured during an encounter between security forces and ULFA in the outskirt of Guwahati on Sunday. The encounter took at Hospital Chowk in Sualkuchi at around 10 in the morning where a hardcore cadre of the proscribed outfit was apprehended.
