Charaipung in Sivasagar district bordering Arunachal Pradesh is remaining tense on Sunday even as the indefinite economic blockade further seems to have compounded the problem. A group of armed miscreants set on fire several houses on Sunday morning and detained a local resident for several hours. Meanwhile, Assam police and their Arunachal Pradesh counterparts with CRPF are on patrolling duty to thwart any fresh string of violence. A section of local resident in Khunsa is leaving their houses fearing attack on them.
Meanwhile, Assam law minister Pranab Gogoi said there is no specific evidence to allege the involvement of NSCN(IM) cadres in this cycle of violence. Addressing a press conference in Sivasagar on Sunday, Gogoi admitted that no census or land survey was conducted in Charaipung since 1984.
