Adequate security measures for Vice President's visit

IMPHAL: Adequate security measures have been put in place in view of the Manipur visit by Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu tomorrow.

Naidu will arrive in Imphal at 1:30 pm. He will attend the closing event of a state level workshop on “Biodiversity and Sustainable Agriculture for Doubling Farmers’ Income” at City Convention, Palace Compound, said official sources.

Manipur Governor Dr Najama Heptulla and Chief Minister N Biren Singh will attend the closing function of the workshop organised by the state government in collaboration with the Central Agricultural University.

 

Agriculture minister V Hangkhalien will formally inaugurate the workshop which will have two technical sessions—11 am to 1 pm and 2 pm to 3:30 pm. I

In the BJP-ruled Manipur, decks have been cleared to hold the 5th general Panchayat polls in six districts of the valley, including Kakching and Jiribam slated for October 7. The State Election Commission on Thursday confirmed that three different colour of ballot papers will be used by voters in the upcoming polls. Police on Tuesday inspected sweet shops across the city ahead of Durga Puja and other festivals during which one shop was closed down for violating guidelines of Food Safety & Standards Act. The inspection was conducted by a police team headed by Designated Officer of Food Safety Security Act, Imphal West, Y Satyajit and Imphal West Police Additional Superintendent of Police Priyadarshini Laishram. A mild 3.0 magnitude earthquake jolted the north eastern state of Manipur striking no less panic among the people on Sunday.  Originated in Ukhrul, the tremor was felt in many parts of the state at 2.07 in the afternoon forcing the people in yhr high rise buildings to come down to the space. There was no report of any loss of life and property.  “As I reached home from the Church suddenly I saw my house started shaking. The police and his family are still clueless about the mysterious death of the 22-year-old youth from Imphal. A 4 magnitude earthquake no less struck panic in the northeastern state of Manipur on Friday. Originated in Ukhrul, the tremor was felt across the state at 10.04 in the evening forcing many people in the high rise buildings to come down to the open space. “As I was watching television, suddenly I came to feel the jolt as the clock struck at 10.4 in the evening. Then I switched off the light and cams out of my house to the open space,” said Rasin Devi, a local resident of Imphal.
