Here comes the Magh Bihu

UDALGURI,Jan 7:  Udalguri and its people are gearing up for Magh Bihu slated for January 13 and 14 with traditional pomp and gaiety. The people across the BTAD district are busy with preparation to celebrate the much-vaunted occasion. The youths are at work to make out the Bhelaghar for community feasting, the women are busy with preparing traditional food items to be served to their near and dear ones. 

The innovative and creative ideas of youths are visible in majestic structures of Bhelaghar for the forthcoming Magh Bihu. The Bagaribari villagers of Udalguri have also geared up for the festival.. The make-shift structure masterrminded byJibon Jyoti Rabha is built with  hay, bamboo, twigs, with more than a fortnight labour.

1 NDFB(S) cadre, 2 suspected linkman apprehended in Udalguri

UDALGURI: Based on specific input the security forces in a joint operation apprehended a NDFB (S) cadre from No. 2 Merabil area under Mazbat PS in Udalguri on Monday evening. The person has been identified as Geremsa Basumatary. The security forces also recovered one Indian grenade and one Chinese grenade from the farm land behind his house campus. Son hacks father to death in Udalguri

UDALGURI: A 30-year-old man allegedly hacked his father to death at their house in Barangabari near Dimakuchi in Udalguri district on Saturday night over a trivial dispute. The family members informed the police and handed over the accused.Reportedly, a heated argument ensued  between the deceased Byartha Kujur and accused Santosh Kujur. Sources said Santosh picked up a quarrel with his father over a trivial issue and hacked him to death with a stick in a fit of rage. UDALGURI:The All Assam Minority Students' Union(AAMSU) staged a two-hour sit-in-demonstration in front of DC office in Udalguri on Thursday.The programme was held under the aegis Udalguri district committee of the student body strongly voiced against the purported suggestion by National Register of Citizens (NRC) state coordinator,Prateek Hajela to the Supreme Court to exclude five out of the 15 documents from NRC modalities.
