One killed, three hurt in hit-and-run accident

IMPHAL, Jan 3 (NENA): One cyclist was mowed down and three others were injured in a hit-and-run car accident last night, hitting one person after another in Imphal East’s Hatta and NRL pump at Khurai.  

The deceased identified as Thangjam Paka, 56, resident of Khurai Thangjam Leikai, died near Khurai NRL pump after the Santro car hit and dragged him along the road about 100 ft.

Prior to the fatal incident, the same car hit a pedestrian in front of Hatta Public Hospital and another person who was driving Honda Activa scooter and pedestrian who were injured. Finally, he mowed down Thangjam Paka near Khurai NRL pump.

The injured are undergoing medical treatment at Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Sciences (JNIMS), Porompat.

A large number of irate residents stormed the Imphal East Police Station, Porompat Wednesday morning demanding that the involved driver be handed over to them. They chanted slogans for justice. The police, however, managed to pacify them.

7 hurt in clash over land in Manipur

Imphal, Dec 16 (NENA): Seven villagers were injured, one of them seriously, after violent clash erupted between two groups at L Tangnaum (Harapthel) village under Sapormeina Police Station over an ongoing land dispute on Saturday. Chingsubam Rame, 45, got hit by a bullet during the clash that happened around noon, sources said. Attack on Assam Rifles convoy in Kamjong

IMPHAL: Manipur on Saturday averted a Chandel district like militant attack when a group of rebels made an abortive attempt on an Assam Rifles convoy in Kamjong. Total shutdown disrupts NH-2

A 12-hour total shutdown on Imphal-Dimapur road, NH-2 enforced by Naga civil society groups disrupted normal life on Monday.
