Joypore an emerging tourists' hotspot

NAMRUP: Literally boxed by Arunachal Pradesh in the east and south and the historic Charaideo in the western side, Assam has yet another paragon of nature's beauty and bounty. Known as Jeypore Reserved Forest in the civil district of Dibrugarh, the abode of many wildlife can now boast of being an emerging tourist hub. The beautiful and potential forest falls under humid and heavy rainfall zone required to be a rainforest. Even in dry season, say from November to March, Joypore remains damp which recorded maximum annual rainfall upto 3640 mm in 1999. Maximum temperature recorded upto stood at 35 degree in 1990 and minimum temperature was 8 degree in 1999.

 The forest forms a part of the world heritage of tropical/ Subtropical wet evergreen forest, multistoried in structure and rich in biodiversity.  It is an abode of Hollong of a height of 50 metres apart from Sopa , Dhuna , Sam , Hollong , Jatuli , Borpat , Mekai , Nahar , Uriam Seleng etc .   The name of some valuable trees with scientific names  found in this forest are as follows :-

  3.  Hilikha   :- Terminalia Chebula .

   4. Ajar  :- Lagrslroomia Speciosa 

   5. Nahar :- Mesua ferrea .

   7.  Sam :- Arto Carpus chapasha

   8 . Tita Sopa :- Michellia Champaca 

   9. Sassi :- Aqeilatia agallecha 

  10. Hollong :- Dipterocarpus macracarpus

Forest officials call it an example of nature beauty which spreads over an area of 108 sq km at  Joypur in Dibrugarh covering an area of 10,876.68 hectares known for more than 40 rare species of animals, more than 320 rare species of wild birds. Some of these are now disappearing from the earth and more than 150 rare species of snakes still exist. The Mumbai-based Natural History Society and Bird Life International Society have conducted a survey at the Jeypore Reserved Forest and renamed as site for Important Bird Area Site.

 In this area Fire Rare types of Owl , various types of eagle , fasu, moupiya bhadarkali. Around 67.7% of birds in this area where 36.3% are seasonal and 23.1% others visit here during winter. Other 2.5% come during summer while 10.7% others stay in the rain forest. The rain forest has an immense scope for emerging as a hotspot for thousands of tourists from the country and abroad. The country's first ever rainforest festival is still celebrated in Jeypore and in a in a bid to boost eco tourism, a three day Joypore Rainforest is included near the forest area from February 11 to 13. But this time it will be celebrated on December 30 and 31 which will include camping inside the  forest  , trekking , rafting ,  bird watching , elephant riding and many more .

Dibrugarh road turns deathtrap

Namrup: The dilapidated condition of a vital road in Dibrugarh district has been causing no less inconvenience for thousands of local residence apart from those who keep travelling in area. That too at a time when the government claims to have revolutionised the surface communication sector. The example here is Dibrugarh-Naharkatiya Road in the upper Assam district where a straight travel on a portion of 8 km is nothing but a nightmare. ULFA(I) rebel held in Sivasagar

Namrup: Rebel elements still keep unleashing terror in many parts in the form of extortion apart from recruitment drive even in the festive season. Army and police apprehended an ULFA(I) rebel during a joint operation in Sivasagar district on Saturday who was said to have been carrying extortion and recruitment on behalf of the rebel outfit. Acting on a tip off army jawans from Maibela and Joysagar along with police launched a joint crackdown in Bokota near Nemuguri where, the rebel identified as Navadeep Chetia was arrested. Then Nemuguri police took him into their custody after a pistol, two rounds of bullets were seized from his possession.

Undying festivity in Namrup

Namrup: Festivity refuses to die down in Namrup where sounds of dumbs, buffalo  horn pipe along with other traditional musical instruments mingles in the air that makes the mood more vibrant. The industrial area in Dibrugarh district converged into a mini Assam on Friday when ethic and tribal groups showcased their Rongali Bihu tradition at the open festival organized by the local AASU unit. Namrup: The Assam Press Correspondent Union has strongly condemned the petrol bomb attack at the residence of prolific writer and journalist Patricia Mukhim in Shillong on Tuesday. In a statement issued here on Wednesday, Assam Press Correspondent Union Central President Manoj Singh ,working President Mausam Jyoti  Baishya and Secretary general Hemanta Saikia said the incident has  given a bad hint of attack on the fourth pulled.They further demanded immediate arrest of the miscreants involved in the incident.

Slogans and protest in Namrup tea garden

NAMRUP: More than 3,000 tea garden workers and their family members raided the management of the Dilli Tea Estate in Namrup reiterating a slew of demands on Wednesday. They thronged the office premises of the tea garden at 11 in the morning and started shouting slogans before the management to raise their demands which they said old.These include welfare measures of the tea garden workers and hike in daily wage.Apprehending uneasy situation the authority deployed police and CRPF jawans. DIBRIGARH/ GUWAHATI: An influential peasant body in Assam staged a statewide sit in on Tuesday opposing the joint parliamentary committee's hearing on the Citizenship Amendment Bill (1951) in New Delhi.
