Naga framework triggers off day
Demanding disclosure of the details of ‘Framework Agreement,’ residents in Thangmeiband constituency on Thursday observed a day off from work.
As part of the day-long protest, a sit-in was held in front of Nisha Club, Thangmeiband organised by Thangmeiband United Club where local MLA Kh Joykishan and former chief Minister Radhabinod Koijam also took part.
Speaking to media on the sidelines, the Congress MLA Joykishan expressed unhappiness about the way the Centre has been dealing the issue. The Government of India and NSCN (IM) signed the Framework Agreement, also known as Peace Accord, on August 3, 2015.
The Framework Agreement still remains an inside job between the Centre and Naga outfit. This has made an anxiety for Many in Manipur, Assam and Arunachal Pradesh over possible infringement on their territories when the two sides come to ink a final peace deal.
“Union Minister of State for Home Affairs Kiren Rijiju on several occasions has maintained that the government cannot make known the contents of the Framework Agreement to the public because of its sensitive nature. What we want to know is the sensitive details of the agreement,” Joykishan said.
He further said, “We’ll never allow any attempt to impinge on the territorial integrity of Manipur,” he said.
Former chief minister Radhabinod Koijam said ‘now is not time to play cheap politics.’ He said the solution for the Naga problem cannot be brought about by engaging the peace process with only a single community.
The local club invited all political parties to take part in the demonstration, but representatives of only three parties were present.

Preparing of the comprehensive memorandum by the sub-committee of different political parties on the issue concerning the Indo-Naga peace talks is nearing completion, its chairman said on Friday.
