Disrupting leopard killed, consumed in Namrup

NAMRUP:A section of people in a remote hamlet in Namrup killed a leopard hours after it killed a lady and hurt 3 others in a series of attack on Friday morning. Not only that after lynching, the villagers cut the animal into pieces in full view of the forest officials. Then they  claimed to have consumed it triggering widespread anger among the animal lovers.

These disturbing incidents took place in Majkopihuwa goan and Asomiya Gaon where the local villagers in large number chased the leopard after it killed Maikon Gogoi and injuring three others in s series of attacks in the morning.

The animal then was beaten up to death. A section of them cut it into pieces to vanished. Some of them later claimed to have consumer it which needs to be probed.

The reason why the leopard attacked people is not mentioned. A leopard won't just go on an attack spree. I would assume that these would have been either chance encounters or the leopard retaliating when provoked

Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi is scheduled to hold a crucial round of meeting with planning commission on Monday.In his meeting with the plan panel deputy chairman Dr Mantek Singh Ahluwaliah, the chief minister is expected to seek a hike in the annual plan outlay for the state. According to sources, Gogoi further is likely to seek special assistance to help the state complete the pending projects.  
A hail of protests in the form of bandh seems to have crippled normalcy in the BTAD areas on Monday. Several organizations have enforced 24 hour bandhs in the BTAD areas on Monday in protest against NDFB’s killing spree where 8 people died and over 10 have injured in four different incidents of attack on innocent people.Life remained paralyzed in the entire BTAD areas following the 24 hour bandhs which began at 6 in the morning on Monday. shops and markets, schools and colleges, banks and offices remained closed while the vehicles of security forces were seen plying on the roads.       
Amrit Cement has tendered unconditional apology in the face of mounting protest of its recent diktat over the Assamese language in its official functionings.In a statement, the cement company regretted the earlier notification which oozed protest across the state.   
The Asom Sahitya Sabha officials came out to the streets on Sunday in protest against the non implementation of the Assam Language Act----making it mandatory for the government to use Assamese language in the official functionings.The protesters removed some English and Hindi hoardings and banners on the streets. A section of Sahitya Sabha officials blackened the hoardings and banners.A section of the Sabha officials told assamtimes that they would intensify the agitation in the run up to the special session in the city. The protest in this form assumes significance a few days after a cement factory instructed its workers and employees to avoid Assamese language inside the factory campus.

A full scale offensive begins in BTAD areas against NDFB-S after the Bodo militant outfit killed 8 persons in three different attacks. The entire strategy was chalked at the unified command meeting in Dispur on Sunday. On the other hand, DGP Khagen Sarma has instructed top police officials in BTAD to strictly deal with the elements. Chief minister Tarun Gogoi who is camping in New Delhi is assessing the situation on telephonic conversation with Khagen Sarma.
AGP president Prafulla Kumar Mahanta on Sunday question Tarun Gogoi’s moral rights to continue as chief minister in view of his failure to rein in the militant outfits. Mahanta blamed it all on the chief minister saying that these orgy of uneasy incidents suggest Gogoi failure on the law and order front.
NDFB-S continues to spread terror tentacles in BTAD areas forcing the authorities to launch combing operations against the Bodo militant outfit. The anti-talk faction of the outfit shot dead one more person in Mongoljhar. With this the toll in the militant attack during the last 30 hours has reached 8.
