GUWAHATI: Amid the crucial probe into the APSC scam, the Gauhati High Court on Tuesday rejected the bail petition moved by chairman Rakesh Paul who has been languishing in jail for the last several months.
A disappointed Paul and his legal team now has no option to pin hopes on the Supreme Court for respite. His lawyers, sources, say are moving the apex court challenging the ruling on Tuesday.
A division bench of the court ruled that since the probe into the nefarious cash for job scam has reached a crucial stage, the bail is not advisable for the chairman.
Paul who two months back procured bail from the Supreme Court was rearrested acting on a fresh bribery case registered against him in Bhangagarh police outpost.
Sources told Assam Times that Paul is moving the country's apex court challenging the High Court's ruling on Tuesday.

Bangladesh steps up procedures to deport ULFA general secretary Anup Chetia next week. But the authorities are tightlipped on the date. Security has been beefed up at the Rajshahi central jail have for Chetia, who is has been languishing in the jail since 1997. Sources say Chetia was allowed to know the process. Home Minister Sahara Khatun is understood to have told the authorities to step up the process to push back the ULFA top leader after he assured her Indian counterpart P Chidambaram of steps to deport him. Atleast 5 people died and over 35 others have been injured at a huge inferno which took place after an oil tanker met mishap on the National Highway 37 in Golaghat. The tragic incident took place at Bongaon in Badulipara on Tuesday wee hour where a huge inferno erupted when over 30 people gathered to collect crude immediately after the mishap of the oil tanker. Some of these people manage to flee immediately after an explosion which was followed by the huge inferno.
