GUWAHATI: Amid the crucial probe into the APSC scam, the Gauhati High Court on Tuesday rejected the bail petition moved by chairman Rakesh Paul who has been languishing in jail for the last several months.
A disappointed Paul and his legal team now has no option to pin hopes on the Supreme Court for respite. His lawyers, sources, say are moving the apex court challenging the ruling on Tuesday.
A division bench of the court ruled that since the probe into the nefarious cash for job scam has reached a crucial stage, the bail is not advisable for the chairman.
Paul who two months back procured bail from the Supreme Court was rearrested acting on a fresh bribery case registered against him in Bhangagarh police outpost.
Sources told Assam Times that Paul is moving the country's apex court challenging the High Court's ruling on Tuesday.

No relief seems to be waiting the sun-burnt people on Thursday.
Guwahati is set to break 33 year old record on Thursday. The city was
hit by temperature of 39 degree Celsius on Wednesday. The death toll
due to the heatwave went up to 3 in the city on Wednesday.
Heatwave toll goes up to 9 on Thursday after a person died of
heatstroke in Digboi on Thursday. A street dweller was killed in the
heat on Wednesday. The body was found under the Ulubari flyover. Apart
from him, a 70-year-old man, Sibulal Rabidas, died in the heatwave at
Lalamukh Tea Garden in Hailakandi district. A 65-year-old man died of
heatstroke in the Labourputa area of Cachar district. In Nagaon
district, one person died due to the heat.
The regional meteorological centre in Guwahati recorded a maximum
temperature of 38.8°C on Wednesday. It predicts hardly any relief
during the next 48 hours. Schools and colleges are remaining closed
under the impact of the heat-wave. The Kamrup (Metro) district
administration has instructed schools across Guwahati to remain shut
on Thursday and Friday.
Amid growing revolt against Tarun Gogoi, AICC has ruled out a change in the chief ministership which has downplayed the dissidence.Party spokesperson Renuka Chowdhary told reporters in Delhi, “some people have certain views.
