Rakesh Paul to move SC with bail plea

GUWAHATI: Amid the crucial probe into the APSC scam, the Gauhati High Court on Tuesday rejected the bail petition moved by chairman Rakesh Paul who has been languishing in jail for the last several months.

A disappointed Paul and his legal team now has no option to pin hopes on the Supreme Court for respite. His lawyers, sources, say are moving the apex court challenging the ruling on Tuesday.

A division bench of the court ruled that since the probe into the nefarious cash for job scam has reached a crucial stage, the bail is not advisable for the chairman.

Paul who two months back procured bail from the Supreme Court was rearrested acting on a fresh bribery case registered against him in Bhangagarh police outpost.

Sources told Assam Times that Paul is moving the country's apex court challenging the High Court's ruling on Tuesday.

KOKRAJHAR: Train services in BTAD areas remained heavily disrupted when hundreds of leaders and activities from the Adivashi National Convention Committee blocked the railway tracks in Kokrajhar on Wednesday. GUWAHATI:Finally Nishamoni Deka surrendered on Tuesday two months after the accused ACS officer in APSC scam went underground. Deka surrendered before the police at Special Branch Headquarters in Guwahati in the morning immediately to be arrested by the special operation unit of Dibrugarh police set up to probe the scam. Deka surrendered before the police a day after the Gauhati High Court declined her anticipatory bail plea. The Supreme Court has already rejected the plea. GUWAHATI: The Gauhati High Court on Wednesday will decide on the fate of Akhil Gogoi when it would be clearing the ruling on the bail petition moved by the KMSS leader who was arrested under the National Security Act three months back. The court heard the petition and fixed December 20 as the date for clearing the ruling on Gogoi’s bail plea. KMSS leaders and workers hope Gogoi would be able to procure bail since his arrest under NSA was unwanted. He was arrested under NSA a couple of days after he openly urged the people to remain prepared for armed struggle.
