Rice mills in residential area to create health hazards

The setting up of rice mills in agricultural and residential plots of lands have caused serious air and noise pollution as well as health hazards at Kalaigaon. People of No.2 Kalaigaon in Udalguri district have expressed serious concern with DICC Udalguri for issuing rice mill permits to people establishing mills on government lands.People of the locality also submitted allegation to Udalguri DC against such recommendations of DICC, Udalguri officials last year in 2016.

As per the reports submitted to DC Udalguri ,Revenue Circle Officer, Kalaigaon (Memo No. KLG /I/2015/209 Dated 18/11/2016) clearly stated that one Premlal Chouhan son of late Arjun Chouhan of No. 2 Kalaigaon had obtained DICC Udalguri rice mill permits and bank loan of rupees four lakhs against lands under his possession.

But the land against of which permits and bank loan were alloted belongs to the category of government lands,as per the official report. But inspite of all these anomalies,DICC Udalguri alloted permits and on which behalf bank loans were also managed by the party. "How could DICC, Udalguri and nationalized banks grant such permits and loans to any owner against mortgage of government lands?" asked veteran social worker and resident of No.2 Kalaigaon Kami Ram Saharia. Other people living in and around No.2 Kalaigaon also raised serious concern over the issue saying that the establishment of the rice mills would create both noise and air pollution and would destroy serenity of the localities concerned. They also said that health of the children as well as old aged people would be effected badly.

People requested Assam CM Sarbananda Sonowal and BTC chief Hagrama Mahilary to intervene in the matter in the interest of the people.
