National Nutrition Week observed in Orang

The National Nutrition Week, 2017 was observed at Bhaiphukuri TE of Udalguri recently.The programme organized by Orang Block PHC in collaboration with Mazbat ICDS Project, was presided over by Sr. M.O. I/C Bahipookri Tea Estate Hospital, Dr. Pratap Ch. Saikia.

Attending the programme, Udalguri Deputy Commissioner Sadhana Hojai spoke regarding the nutritional aspects of women, especially during pregnancy, among Adivasi women working in tea gardens. She also requested the ASHA and AWW workers to take necessary steps for motivating pregnant women to visit Anganwadi centres and to provide nutritious diet to them so that they can give birth to healthy babies.

Speaking on the occasion, Joint Director of Health Services Udalguri, Dr. Toibur Rahman delivered a very comprehensive and valuable speech on nutritional care to be taken during pregnancy. Earlier, the welcome speech was delivered by BPM, Orang BPHC Pankaj Kumar Savapandit, and the objective was explained by DCM Udalguri, Mouchumi Kalita. In connection with the observation of National Nutrition Week, 2017, a complementary feeding (Annaprasanna) programme was also held for few infants.

Udalguri:  A court in Udalguri has sentenced five people to life imprisonment for the 2017 murder of Sahid Jamal in Kalaigaon. District and Sessions Judge N.
