Amidst tight security for I-Day, bomb blast rocks Imphal
A bomb exploded here on Sunday amidst tight security being put in place ahead of the forthcoming Independence Day celebrations, but there were no casualties. The incident occurred at Kakwa Naorem Leikai within Imphal West around 9:30 in the morning. Sources believed militants had triggered the blast that took place close to a power transformer. A team from the district police led by its Superintendent of Police Themthing Ngasangva rushed to the spot to take stock of the situation.
Seven different militant outfits have given a call to boycott the Independence Day celebrations across North East region on August 15. They have called a total shutdown in the entire region from 6 am to 6 pm on this day.
The seven militant outfits are Hynniutrep National Liberation Council (HNLC), Kangleipak Communist Party (KCP), Kamatapur Liberation Organisation (KLO), Kanglei Yawol Kanna Lup (KYKL), National Democratic Front of Boroland (NDFB), National Liberation Front Twipra (NLFT) and People's Democratic Council of Karbilongri (PDCK).
In a joint statement they said India had never been a country or nation until 1947 when the British colonialists left this region.
It said that as part of the continuing resistance struggle, the outfits declare to ban India’s Independence Day celebrations in WESEA.

Imphal, Dec 16 (NENA): Seven villagers were injured, one of them seriously, after violent clash erupted between two groups at L Tangnaum (Harapthel) village under Sapormeina Police Station over an ongoing land dispute on Saturday.
