3 cops suspended over woman’s death

 Three cops have been placed under suspension in connection with the suspicious death of a woman inside the toilet of Andro Police Station on August 1 last.

In an order issued by Imphal East District Police Superintendent of Police Kabib K the three police personnel have been suspended for misconduct and dereliction of duty.

They are Sub-Inspector L Heramani, Assistant Sub-Inspector H Prakash and woman personnel Soniya Devi.

Investigations are on to find out the causes of the death of the 38-year-old Mutum Ongbi Indira Devi, wife of M Ibohanbi Singh in the toilet of Andro Police Station.    

Tension had prevailed in Imphal East’s Andro following the woman was mysteriously found dead inside the toilet of the police station.

Enraged over the death, a large number of people led by meira paibis (village guarding women) stormed the police station demanding answers in Indira’s death.

Andro residents had questioned the mysterious death of the woman who was picked up by police from her Andro Khuman residence on July 31 last for questioning over the missing of a woman from the same village.

Sources informed that one Sarungbam Ongbi Sunibala Devi, 28, has gone missing since she went out with Indira on July 25 last. Sources in Indira’s family claimed that she had also gone missing since July 25 last.

 Four women were reportedly injured and at least four houses torched after two groups clashed over a land dispute in Machi Block under Tengnoupal Police Station of Tengnoupal district. Haijang Village Authority Kangpokpi district, Manipur urged the state government to look into the problem of earth crack in the area which has made houses to slide progressively. Most of the Manipur rivers were flowing close to danger level on Tuesday as heavy rains continued to lash the state since the last couple of days.
