The All Bodoland Minority Students’ Union President, Lafikul Islam Ahmed was shot dead Tuesday evening at Titaguri bazaar in Kokrajhar.
The incident took place at about 4:30 pm when two helmet bearing armed miscreants on a bike shot at Ahmed from point blank range when he was in a tiles shop. In the indiscriminate firing that ensued a staff of the shop sustained two bullet injuries. Identified as Subangkhar Chakrabarty, he was referred to Guwahati Medical College and Hospital for further management.
According to the proprietor of the shop, Gautam Ghosh, armed miscreants shot dead Ahmed, who visited his shop to buy tiles.
Two empty cartridges, a pair of sun glasses and wrist watch was recovered from the spot. Ahmed died on the spot. Police arrested Gautam Ghosh for questioning.
Police and district administration personnel immediately rushed to the spot to take stock of the incident. Investigation is on to nab the culprits involved, said Rajen Singh, SP Kokrajhar.
Bibekananda Choudhury, DC Kokrajhar said that the killing of the student leader was very unfortunate. Inquiry into incident has begun.
BTC Chief, Hagrama Mohilary, condemned the incident and termed it as politically motivated. He has demanded strong investigation into the killing. He has urged all sections of society to maintain peace and tranquility.
While organizations, ABSU, AAMSU, AAGSU, BPF Minority Cell, AKRSU and the Sadou Asom Goriya Moriya Desi Jatiya Parishad condemned the incident demanding severe action the parent body of ABMSU warned to call for an indefinite BTAD bandh beginning tomorrow if the administration fails to nab the culprits.
