Land dispute turns violent
Four women were reportedly injured and at least four houses torched after two groups clashed over a land dispute in Machi Block under Tengnoupal Police Station of Tengnoupal district.
The district administration imposed curfew in Machi village and Khudei Khullen following the incident that occurred around 10:30 am. Violent clashes broke out in the area over a piece of land as two groups of the neighbouring villages fought pitched battles, police said.
Unofficial report said tension prevailed in Machi Block following violence over a land dispute in which four villagers were injured and at least 11 houses were burnt down.
The warring groups opened fire at each other. As a result, four persons were injured, sources informed. There was verbal clash and scuffle between the two sides that led to violence.
Manipur police and 18 Assam Rifles personnel have rushed to the area to control the situation. Sources said the situation can easily escalate and get out of control very quickly in the area where security personnel are still deployed.
Those injured were identified as Ch Toda, wife of Matthew of Machi Part-I, P Muishangdar, wife of P Angam of Machi Part-III, K Temuisim, wife of Anga of Machi Part-I but identity of the fourth injured person is yet to be ascertained.
In an order issued by Tengnoupal District Magistrate I Raghumani Singh said a report has been received that a volatile situation is prevailing along the stretch of land area—Khudei Khuman Lamkhai, Kangoi Khullen, Punchong, Chingjarol, Khudei Khuman and land connecting Khudei Khuman or Khudei Khullen of Tengnoupal.
It said such a volatile situation is likely to cause serious breach of peace and disturbances of public tranquillity and therefore the district administration has considered that restriction on movement of men and material in the area would be effective in preventing such disturbances.
It has therefore become expedient to issue a prohibitory order under CrPC for prevenetion of bearch of disturbances of public tranquillity and danger to human lives and properties, the order said.
The order shall not apply to government agencies involved in the enforcement of law and order and other essential services, it said.

All old petrol and diesel vehicles in the country are set to convert to all-electric vehicles by installing kits by 2020. This was informed to the media by senior scientist Robindro Lairenlakpam from the Indian Institute of Petroleum Council of Scientific and Industrial Research at the Press Club here on Tuesday. He said the plan would be completed by 2020 during which 60-70 lakh old vehicles are to be converted to electric-vehicles.
