ULFA sticks to independence gun

The United Liberation Front of Asom observed its foundation day on Friday reiterating its struggle for an independent Assam compelling authorities to tighten security across the state.

ULFA cadres have observed the day at Kakopathar where the outfit in rank and file vowed to carry forward the struggle to make Assam free of decade old exploitation.

Those who have already claimed to have eschewed the path of violence observed the day at the designated camps where the leaders and cadres turned emotional. The celebration began with the hoisting of the flags to be followed by discussion on the future course of action.

The outfit was founded by Arabinda Rajkhowa, Arup Chetia, Pradeep Gogoi et al at a meeting at the Rong Ghar campus on April 7, 1979.

A home ministry report finds a safe route of arms smugglers in the north eastern state of Assam. Security forces have seized 1705 illegal arms in the state during the last four years.According to the report from January to June this year alone 187 illegal weapons have been seized by the security forces suggesting the growing cases of arms smuggling. This is apart from the seizure of 525 arms in 2012. Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Nabam Tuki on Sunday witnessed the historic accord signed between the Nyishis and Apatanis at a conglomeration of hundreds of members of both the communities as well as members of various community-based organizations from across the state. Rainwaters are back in Guwahati to wreak havoc in the leading north eastern city. Many parts of the city are coming under the rainwaters after heavy down pour lashed the city on Sunday morning.Heavy traffic snarl for water logging disrupted normal life on the RG Baruah Road making it difficult for the pedestrians for several hours. Simmering protest refuses to die down in Manipur even a month after the orgy of violence kept Churachandpur on the boil. Various women protesters are taking out protest rallies on Sunday in different areas in the restive hills district a day after more than 1 lakh protesters formed 15 km long human chain raising their demands.These include immediate withdrawal of the three controversial bills apart from action against the policemen who killed nine protestors. Defying an inclement weather women in many groups are staging sit ins in at least 7 to 8 places on Sunday raising the same demands.     
The Hatigaon police have arrested three youths and charged them with keeping Gopinath Das at an undisclosed location who is wanted in connection with a rape case. Picked up from their residence at Bhaskarnagar area in the city on Saturday night, they are brother in laws of the Boko MLA who has been absconding from September 7 after he raped his minor domestic help.
Yet another sensational robbery in Guwahati suggests utter lawlessness in the premier north eastern city. The incident took place on Saturday midnight where a gang of robbers armed with pistol and sharp weapons stormed into a courier service office in Gorchuk area.
