Silpi Prerona Award for Gyanendra Kr. Chaliha
To encourage artistes in different fields by honouring their talent, the Uttar Purbanchal Prerona Samannay Unnayan Charitable Trust had been giving away awards in memory of Phuleshwari Deka from more than a decade. This year, a total of 30 such artistes were conferred with the awards.
The trust conferred the Silpi Prerona Award 2017 to Gyanendra Kr. Chaliha who has immensely contributed in the field of fine arts and culture, sangeet and drama. The award was conferred at a ceremonial function held at Pensioners Bhavan, Chandmari in Guwahati recently.
The programme was attended by eminent artistes, litterateur and journalists with noted contribution in the fields.
Chaliha, a resident of Tangla town, has earlier been honored with the titles of Sangeet Nipun by Bhattkandey Institute of Lucknow, Sangeet Bhaskar by Prachin Kala Kendra Chandigarh, Kala-Shree by Creative Art Academy, New Delhi and Kala-Vhibusan by Abantika Institute.
Chaliha is currently serving as Fine Arts instructor and Assamese subject teacher at Maharishi Vidya Mandir ,Tangla, besides acting as Principal at Sangeet Maha Vidyalaya, Saru-Kala Vidyalaya of Tangla. He is the secretary of the Asom Sankristik Mahasabha ,Udalguri district committee.

UDALGURI: The Assam Human Rights Commission (AHRC) has taken suo motu cognizance of newspaper reports of the alleged incident of police atrocities on a doctor in Chirang district on Friday.
AHRC has issued a notice to the District Magistrate, Chirang to cause an inquiry into the incident where media reports stated that the Officer-in-Charge of Amguri PS in Chirang District not only assaulted Dr. Madhurjya Kakati, in-charge of the Amteka Mini PHC but also made him to kneel down along with two others for not wearing masks.

TANGLA: A devastating inferno gutted six houses in Pujakhola locality of Tangla town on Tuesday night at about 9 pm.
Though the source of the fire has not been ascertained ,fire broke out followed by explosion of six cylinders razing the properties worth lakhs to the ground within minutes.
The house belongs to Fakira Ansari, Manik Ali,Bhim Ram,Raj Kumar Prasad,Akon Rabha and Sankar Basfor.

UDALGURI: A baby hog deer weighing about six kilogram was rescued by Mithu Sarkar and Ankit Tanti, two activists of Green Valley Wild Life Protection Society, an NGO of Orongajuli tea estate area today at about 3.00 pm and handed over this to the Udalguri forest department in a healthy condition.
While talking to this correspondent, Mithu Sarksr informed that the NGO has been instrumental to rescue young ones of hog deers, wild elephants, tiger cubs in the near past too and till date, it has been able to rescue such animals which came to their notice.
