Eviction at Manas National Park

A massive eviction drive was carried out at Saliagaon near Boro bazaar under Bhuyanpara forest range in Manas National Park on Saturday which drew strong protest from public during the eviction, which force forest department to  lift the eviction after 11 am.

Over two thousand of publics from different nearby villages protested the eviction drive carried out by forest department, Manas Tiger Project authority in the presence of magistrate carried out eviction drive against illegally occupying national park lands. The forest officials dismantled several small huts which were illegally built along the national park.
The eviction was carried out in support police administration in the national park on its second phase on Saturday. The forest department had taken eviction drive on December 22 last at Betbari area under Bhuyanpara range.

HK Sharma, director of MTP told that the forest department evicted several areas of the Bhuyanpara range which are illegally occupied the national park lands since few years. He said that the eviction drive has been lifted for seven days as peoples seek few days time to vacate the houses.

'The eviction would be carried out again after seven days at any costs along the national park which are illegally occupied by publics', Sharma said.

Peoples from all walks of life come out to  stage protest against eviction carried out in the area. Protesters shouted slogans against forest department, demanded early stop of any kind of eviction along the national park which have used for cultivation for the local peoples. The protesters demanded allotment of land to the nearby peoples who are residing in these lands since long years. They alleged that no any pre notice was serve to the peoples before eviction in the area besides making altercation facilities for the evicted peoples. They also claimed that they are not illegally encroacher in the national park  as forest department terming illegally settlers.


'This land is meant for nearby peoples as they are using for cultivation since long years, so eviction against peoples is totally unwanted', said a protestor along the national park.
'We will continue our protest against eviction that has been carrying by forest department in coming days', said a woman protestor.

KOKRAJHAR: Kokrajhar police apprehended two heroin smugglers from Kokrajhar town late Tuesday evening in a search operation. Kokrajhar police conducted a search operation at one house along the Ganga Hall Road and seized 58.9 grams of heroin. Two persons were apprehended. They were identified as Rinok Narzary (25) of Muthambil Soraibil of Gossaigaon and Mondip Narzary (24 year) of Habrubari under Kokrajhar police station.

KOKRAJHAR: Security forces apprehended six hardcore cadres including deputy finance secretary of the National Democratic Front of Boroland-Saoraigwra faction (NDFB-S) from Ripu Reserve forest, Kokrajhar district early Monday morning. KOKRAJHAR: A tuition master has been arrested for allegedly molestating of minor girl in Kokrajhar town on Sunday evening. According to family, a 9-year-old girl went for tuition class at the nearby house under the Ward no.2 along with her classmates in the morning around at 8 am. KOKRAJHAR: A young boy was trampled to death and  a woman left seriously injuried by wild elephant within 24-hour at Bijni in Chirang district on Friday. According to local peoples, a 12-year-old young boy child was trampled to death by a herd of wild elephants at Bishnupur along the India-Bhutan border area under Bijni police station in Chirang district on Friday morning. Five persons were arrested by te police for illegally carrying cattles in five trucks on Thursday morning at Karigaon national highways in Kokrajhar district. Police intercepted the trucks carrying 80 cattles, including 14 buffaloes during the petrolling in the 31C National Highways. The trucks were bound for Nine Mile, Guwahati from Pandipara and Sonapur of West Bengal. The cattles were purchased by Pioneer Livestocks.
