Drive against immigrants: More trouble awaits simmering Assam

The drive against the illegal Bangladeshi migrants has received more support but is bound to brew more trouble across the state. The main Opposition party of Assam Asom Gana Parishad on Tuesday formally kicked off its drive against these immigrants in Dibrugarh participated by thousands of people.

Thousands of people took out a huge procession in Dibrugarh town organized by Dibrugarh AGP body The people the procession later sent a memorandum to the President of India through the Deputy Commissioner demanding immediate steps to detect and deport illegal Bangladeshi migrants from the state. They said they will continue their agitation till these people are not deported.

Participating in the programme, Opposition leader Chandra Mohan Patowary said, “we will continue the agitation unless and until the illegal Bangladeshi people are detected and deported.”

AGP president Brindabon Goswami, who participated in the programme along with Dibrugarh MP Sarabananda Sonowal, said it’s a Indian-non Indian conflict. He further appealed to the people not to give the agitation a communal colour.

The AGP leaders further slammed the Assam government lacks the will to detect and deport the Bangladehsi immigrants only because of its vote bank politics. According to Patowary, these illegal migrants have been posing a serious threat to the country’s integrity.

Meanwhile, police on Tuesday detained several youths charging them with creating law and order situation while they are trying to pick up some suspected illegal Bangladeshi migrants in the several places. Some sporadic incidents of violence also were reported in some places in lower Assam and Nagaon district while AMSU was giving a bandh call on Tuesday alleging harassment of indigenous minority people in the name of detecting and deporting the immigrants.

It looks like AGP is trying to protect illegal Bangladeshis (vote bank of course!!) in disguise and 'kicked off' their hidden agenda !!! As soon as they took over the 'dispuriya-gadi' in 1985, they stopped 'hate-kame' 'bidekhi kheda abhijan' (the way AASU is doing now, which should have been done since long) and started on 'raj-pothot hiyalor howa' !!
