Joonbeel mela pulls huge crowd
Jagiroad, the name of a tiny town in Morigaon district of Assam breaks into a sea of humanity as the Jonbeel Mela enters second day on Friday showcasing the age old bond and bonhomie of the hills tribal people with their plains counterparts.
Over 500 people from the neighbouring hills states are participating in the annual event with their agricultural products and home made sweets and pastries to keep the bartering system alive.
The tribal people in the plains are equally participating in the historic system with no less zest and zeal.
Traditional tribal games, animal fights seem to have added more charm in the event which got underway on Thursday. Cultural shows are also lined up in the fair which has pulled hundreds of tourists from the country and abroad who have thronged the venue to catch a glimpse of it.
