An awareness meeting on artificial insemination and calf rally was organized by the Veterinary Officer and State Vety. Dispensary Tangla under the sponsorship of Intensive Cattle Development Project (ICDP) at Tangla of Udalguri on Wednesday. The awareness meeting on artificial insemination was inaugurated by BTC EM Bonjar Daimari while BTC EM for Veterinary and Animal Husbandry department Shyam Sundi graced the event as chief guest.
EM Sundi said the department is ready to extend every possible suppport for the people and Self-Help Groups (SHG) who were involved in the rearing and farming of cattle and other domestic animals. He exhorted the people to use modern scientific methods like artificial insemination for economical benefit.
Sundi further said that animal husbandry has tremendous potential for employment generation by dairy farming,sheep farming, goat farming, poultry farming and pig farming it provides excellent opportunity for self employment.
He called upon the farmers to concentrate on commercial point of view for rural economic development that could provide alternative livelihood for the rural people. He also ensured that the department would facilitate treatment and medicines, besides extending monetary assistants for the genuine farm owners and SHGs.
BTC secretary of Veterinary, Rahila Brahma said the department was very important for the rural people through which the villagers could manage their livelihood. She called on for white revolution in the region by setting up co-operative societies like North Indian states. Brahma also exhorted the authorities on the need for increasing annual allocation of fund for the veterinary as to implement farmer-friendly projects in the region.
The keynote address in the awareness meeting was given by the in-charge of ICDP, Kokrajhar Dr Jyoti Prasad Das. The meet was also attended by Dr.Naram Ch. Kachari , District Veterinary Officer,Udalguri ,Ramakanta Baruah former Principal of Tangla College, Dr. Kailash Chamuah Vetenary in charge . The three healthiest calf owners were also given prize money worth Rs.2000,Rs.1500 and Rs.1000 .
