The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Ukhrul unit has strongly condemned arrest of two BJP MLAs Khumukcham Joykisan of Thangmeiband and Thongam Biswajit of Thongju and 17 party workers who were pro-testing against state government’s decision to hold fresh recruitment after cancelling police constable recruitment held back in 2013.
BJP Ukhrul general secretary Mahirah Raihing told media persons on Wednes-day the two MLAs were agitating for the cause of ending corruption in the state and there was nothing anti-social about the protest. Terming the police action against the party leaders and workers as highhanded, Mahirah called upon every right thinking citizens to support the agitation.
Noting mental dilemma and frustration of successful candidates due to cancellation of the recruitment process, he conveyed solidarity with the agitating candidates and demanded that the government intro-duce a fair policy for recruitment of police personnel to contain rampant corruption.
A BJP Ukhrul functionary and former national footballer Somatai Shaiza who also attended the press briefing, disclosed that he is all set to contest the forthcoming assembly election from 44 Ukhrul AC and is seeking party ticket. Slamming the Congress-led government in the state for making corruption a household name and a professional subject, Shaiza called upon the people to give their mandate for the BJP in the ensuing state assembly polls. Ukhrul BJP president designate Yarthothing Kashung along with other party workers also attended the media briefing.
