Poachers have killed a full grown rhino on Thursday wee hours when a huge portion of the world heritage site is still reeling under flood. The incident took place in the Bagori range where the forest guards spotted the carcass in the morning. Poachers were believed to have taken away the horn. The incident took place a day after poachers killed a full grown female rhino along with her calf on Wednesday. A section of the KNP officials has tried to blame it all on the flood. But the missing horn has proved, beyond doubt, that it was case of rhino poaching.

Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi is expected to seek more central assistance for the state when he will attend the north east chief ministers’ conference in New Delhi on Monday. To be chaired by Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh at his official residence at 11 in the morning, Gogoi is likely to raise the plight of a number of infrascture projects in the state.Dr Singh is expected to review the major infrascture projects in the entire region. DoNER minister Pawan Singh Ghatowar, union finance minister P Chidambaram are also scheduled to attend the meeting.The prime minister has already asked the ministries to expedite the implementation of all the north east projects.

Assam Congress in deep grip of poll mood. Altogether 138 candidates are waiting to contest from 14 Lok Sabha polls. Rajiv Bhawan sources told assamtimes that Guwahati seat gets maximum 18 aspirants. Seventeen aspirants have applied to contest from Barpeta. Nagaon, Barpeta and Silchar have 16 aspirants each. Union minister Pawan Singh Ghatowar is likely to be fielded from his home constituency Dibrugarh as there is no other aspirant for the seat. Ranee Narah, BK Handique, and Biren Singh Engti have applied for their home constituencies Lakhimpur, Jorhat and Diphu respectively. The state Congress committee will meet on Tuesday to screen the aspirants.
