Freedom fighter, social worker and a cultivator Ratneswar Sarma passed away on Saturday at his own residence at Borakhat village on the outskirts of Tangla.He was 104. Born at 1912 in Byampara village near Sipajhar of Darrang district to Ratikanta Sarma and Radhika Devi. He migrated to Borakhat area of undivided Darrang district and present Udalguri district in 1932. Along with his profession of farming he actively participated in the country's freedom struggle and later rendered himself to the cause of the society.
He leaves behind, five sons,two daughters and a host of relatives. His death was widely mourned by various organizations and individuals including Tangla regional AASU unit,Tangla Press Club and Udalguri district unit of AGP.
