East Zone Inter Sainik School Sports & Co-Curricular Championship from July 12

Sainik School Goalpara would host the East Zone Inter Sainik School Sports & Co-Curricular Championship 2016-17 in the school premises from 12 to 16 July 16. The Opening Ceremony will be held in the school parade ground at 08:30 hrs on 12 Jul. Lt Gen Konsam Himalaya Singh, UYSM, AVSM, YSM, Commandant of Infantry School, Mhow, Madhya Pradesh and an alumnus of Sainik School Goalpara and the first officer from the North-East to be promoted to the rank of Lt Gen will grace the occasion as the Chief Guest.

There is a lot of excitement among cadets and staff of the school regarding the visit of an Officer of his calibre whose very presence is expected to not only add charm to the grand event but also boost morale of the participants and cadets of his alma mater. A total of 288 cadets from 04 Sainik Schools of East Zone, namely Sainik School Imphal, Manipur, Sainik School Punglwa, Nagaland, Sainik School Purulia, West Bengal and the host school will participate in Football (Juniors & Sub-Juniors), Volleyball, Hockey, Basketball and co-curricular events viz. English and Hindi Debate, Quiz and Variety Entertainment Programme. The school would showcase traditional dances of Assam to the participants, which be performed by artists from Dudhnoi.

The All Bodo Students Union , one of the largest ethnic students union of the north east has organised a sit and dharna at the Jantar Mantar in New Delhi on some of the demands for which the organisation is working for couple of years on 9th November, 2012. The demand includes permanent solution of Bodoland issues. It has demanded the protection of Tribal Land (Assam Land & Revenue Regulation Act, 1886). It has also demanded the implementation of Forest Act, 2006 in Assam.
