In a move that fetches joy for Assam and its people, a top ranked ONGC officer from Assam will head the Oil India Limited.

He is none other than Utpal Borah who is all set to sit in the helm of affairs of the oil public sector unit.

Borah, now Executive Director (Asset Manager) ONGC, who has been finalized for the post of OIL chairman cum managing director is expected to join within this month.

OIL has been running functioning without a full-time CMD since July 1 last year.

Public sector top management personnel recruiter Public Enterprises Selection Board last year conducted two interviews to select its head where Rupshikha Saikia Borah was selected. But the Prime Minister’s Office rejected the selection. The MoPNG search committee shortlisted 15 candidates for the interview. These 15 include three Baruah and Anil Kumar Jain, Pramod Kumar Sharma, Rahul Dasgupta, Utpal Borah, PK Rao, Dr Ashutosh Karnataka, Saumendra Kumar Baruah, Dr Sunil Y Bharati and Bedanta Sarmah, Robin Deka, SB Buragohain.

Its high time for the Supreme Court to simplify the process to update the NRC to ensure that the genuine citizines can smoothly participate in the process. Former GMDA minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma threatened to take legal action against a section media for dragging his name to the Luis Berge scam.Talking to reporters at the Rajiv Bhawan premises on Wednesday, the former minister said that a section of media has been naming him in the multi crore scam bereft of any reason. “I will take file criminal and defamation cases against a section of media in a day or two,” said Dr Sarma.A visibly angry Dr Sarma said, “My name was figured in the Saradha scam. I received clean chit. But a section of media did not tender apology before me for naming me in the scam. This time I will file defamation case against them.”
People of all walks of life have welcomed the Supreme Court exempting the indigenous people from legacy data for filing the NRC forms.Talking to reporters many parties, organizations and individuals said that the latest ruling of the country’s apex court have made it easy to fill up the NRC forms without legacy data.They further said that the extension of date for filing of NRC forms beyond July 31 is a great relief.
Former GMDA minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma on Wednesday claimed to have played no role in the multi crore Watergate.Talking to reporters in the sidelines of a function at the Rajiv Bhawan, the former minister said that whatever he did as a minister would be clear if any investigation is allowed to take place. Five persons of a family were buried alive when a huge hillock collapsed on their house in Cachar district on Wednesday.The incident took place in the wee hours at Lakhipur are when a huge hillock slipped into the house where Zubeda Khatun along with her four children lived in. “It came to light at around 10 in the morning as the local residents had to keep themselves confined to their homes because of the incessant rains,” a local resident told Assam Times over telephone.
The overall flood scene turns grim on Wednesday again following incessant rains that lashed parts of the state during the last 24 hours.The river Brahmaputra and its tributaries have started flowing above the danger level because of the rains. Sonitpur police have arrested eleven more villagers in Bhimajuli after they beheaded a loal woman branding as witch three days back.“They were arrested on the basis of the confessional statement of the main accused who was arrested hours after the gory incident,” police told Assam Times.But the wife of the main accused who played no less role in the crime has yet to be arrested. “We have yet to pick up her since she is pregnant,” said a police officer who is tracing the case.A section of the villagers in Sonitpur district bordering Arunachal Pradesh dragged a local woman out of her house to be beheaded alleging that she was a witch.
