The move to auction 12 oil fields in Assam runs into a hail of state-wide protests. Announcing a slew of protest, the Asom Jatiyatabadi Yuva Chatra Parishad threatens to intensify protest if the Centre refuses to restraint by July 8. Talking to Assam Times, AJYCP leaders in Sivasagar said they are holding a 12-hour strike at the oil field in Sivasagar district on Monday. On Tuesday, the influential organization will further block the national Highway No 37 in protest against the controversial move of the Modi Government. On July 8, they would block the rails opposing the move.
KOHIMA: Nagaland Chief Minister TR Zeliang is confident that the NPF will retain power to smoothly resolve the decade old political issue. After casting his vote at his local booth, he said, “I hope that polling will finish smoothly. My party will get absolute majority and I hope peace will prevail in the state & we will move for Naga political solution," Polling began on a dull note in the morning. But the turn out started increasing by 12 noon where altogether 11,76,432 voters, comprising of 5,97,281 men, 5,79,151 are exercising their franchise at 2,156 polling stations to decide the fate of 195 candidates in 59 seats. .
