Goria Maria Desi Jatiya Parishad demands Original Inhabitant (OI) status in NRC update
The Sadou Asom Goria Maria Desi Jatiya Parishad strongly reacted over the deprivation of Original Inhabitant (OI) and early demanded inclusion into OI status in the NRC update process across the state, besides claimed that the Goria Maria was also indigenous community in the state.
The Kokrajhar district unit of the Sadou Asom Goria Maria Desi Jatiya Parishad on Monday submitted a memorandum to Deputy Commissioner, Kokrajhar Madhav Prasad Sarma seeking inclusion of Goria Maria Desi Jati into Original Inhabitant status in the state while implementing NRC update. The Gori Maria Desi community was also indigenous people of the state, but the community has been identified as Muslim through religion conversion.The community has own identity and tradition along with their own status. The NRC authority should include Goria Maria Desi community into OI status and held healthy integration in the state, the memorandum read.
Leaders from parishad strongly reacted the OI status provided during NRC update termed that the OI status distribution was a divisive policy while update NRC in the state by classifying OI and some other status among communities. They demanded govt should initiate to allot OI status to the Coria Maria Desi community and implement the NRC update as soon as possible.
Sheik Selim Patgiri,president of the parishad said, ‘Deprived of OI status in the NRC update was unfortunate and condemnable for the society. We are indigenous peoples of the state, but community has yet to be included into OI status’. He has demanded Goria Maria community should be included into OI status and make a healthy integration. The leader of the parishad demanded the NRC authority should give detail definition while exercising status mentions, included OI status. He also urged government and NRC authority to make free and clear step from making harassed of indigenous peoples while implementing the NRC update in the state”.
