The troops of the 37th Bn of Sashatra Seema Bal (SSB) Mangaldai stationed at Bongrum along the Indo-Bhutan border of Udalguri district seized a cache of smuggled timber wood during an operation carried on Tuesday. The SSB troops succeeded in apprehending one Jhon Daimary (23) in connection with the timber. The youth is a resident of Sangrapara village under Harisinga PS of the district. This was stated in a press release by SSB.
The face-value of the seized timber has been estimated to be more than 50 thousand rupees. The seized timber and the youth have been handed over to forest department.
Significantly on May 20 BOP troops of SSB deployed at Bongrum and Barmakhuli of the district seized timber logs worth more than 1 lac rupees and nabbed one smuggler.SSB is committed to stop illegal felling of trees and smuggling of timber in border areas the release further stated.
It is pertinent to mention that unscrupulous and greedy wood-cutters sneak into Khalingduar RF of Bhutan and stay there for days untill sawing them into planks and posts which are later smuggled into India and readily sold in thedistrict.
