Society for Srimanta Sankaradeva condemns electronic channel RENGANI

The Annual General Meeting of Society for Srimanta Sankaradeva (SSS)
was held on May 15, 2016 in the conference hall of Tourist Lodge,
Nagaon. It was presided over by Dr Sanjib Kumar Borkakoti, President
of SSS. The annual report and balance sheet for the past period were
presented in the meeting.

Secretary of SSS Mridu Maucham Bora gave a detailed account of how the
members of society had participated in the ‘Make in India Week
program held in Mumbai and how the Aharya items displayed there
attracted people from all over the world. It was decided that Society
for Srimanta Sankaradeva would set up an Aharya Production Centre at
Dhing as Aharya produced by Society for Srimanta Sankaradeva had
gained acceptance all over. Aharya produced by SSS had been used by
Bhaona teams in different places. Sangeet Natak Akademy also
appreciated the quality of these products.

The general body meeting resolved to undertake several programmes in
the next financial year. These proposed activities are workshops on
Sanchipat preparation and painting, two national seminars on Srimanta
Sankaradeva outside Assam, workshop on Sattriya Nritya in upper Assam,
preparation of digital brochure on Aharya etc.

The AGM expressed grave concern over misuse of Srimanta Sankaradeva’s
name by a section of media and said that it will not be tolerated. The
Assamese entertainment channel RENGANI has started telecast of a
comedy serial by the name ‘Jai Biru Sankara’ from May 16. It came
under scathing attack in the meeting. It was preposterous, the members
opined as it echoed ‘Jai Guru Sankara’. In fact the channel had
earlier announced the title as ‘Jai Guru Sankara’ itself. The meeting
took into account all those announcements and promos in deliberations.
SSS called upon people to be alert to such misendeavours.
