We are proud of you Mr. Mahadev Deka for bringing laurels to our state. Though miles away from home, such rare feat of achievement by any person from our native really makes the banner of Assam fly high and higher. Congrats once again!

This is last year news. He was runner up in Mr Universe 2008. Just 2 days back this year 2009, he has won the Mr. Universe. What about that news? Who has written these comments so late, after 1 year??

he is the trainer of our gym,,,i c him everyday,,,he is a very good human being..we r very much proud to c him...bt at the same time it feels so bad that the day he won the title the whole i was sittin in front of tv to c him...bt not a single news chanel has covered this story...except a local news chanel ie NE TV

It is indeed a proud moment for India and Assam, I am overjoyed by this exciting news and in fact took the pride in informing lots of my friends at office about this glorious achievement by Mr Mahadev Deka. I would like to congratulate Mr Mahadev Deka and would like him to reach more landmarks in coming years.

Its a great honour and respect to all the North eastern people...n an enthusiasm for all the youth..Mr Mahadev Deka showed us the way that everythig is possible... hope more of us (North east) folks was inspired by his success....n will always believe tht we also can reach the goal one day. I remember the first time I met Mahadeb sir. I had joined a gym for the first time in my life, and by sheer luck, he happened to be my coach. On my first day, it was he who saw me crash on my chest after 2 pushups, I was that weak. But then he worked his magic, and in 6 - 8 months, I was working out with significantly heavier weights each time, culminating in a point where, though I would not have qualified for any tournament, I was as fit as an athlete. So here's a big thank you to Mr. Mahadeb Deka. We'll always be proud of you, sir :)

AJYCP to observe August 4 as Black Day

For the Asom Jatiyatabadi Yuva Chatra Parishad, August 4 will be a Black day. The student body is going to do it in protest against the government’s failure to rein in the stepped up activities of the fundamentalist forces in the state. According to the AJYCP general secretary Manoj Baruah, the indigenous people in Assam are living on the edge in the face of the continuing infiltration of Bangladeshi people from across the Indo-Bangla border and also the stepped up activities of the fundamentalist forces. Baruah said the government both in Delhi and Dispur have been failing to rein in these over the years.

Evening shootouts: Panchayat body president killed in Amguri

Two people were killed in two separate incidents in Assam on Tuesday night. A Panchayat body president in Amguri in upper Assam’s Sivasagar district, Hemanta Baruah was shot dead by a few miscreants near his resident Haluwating at around 10 at night on Tuesday. Police have yet to ascertain the reason. In yet another incident, one Himanshu Das, 42 years, was killed by unidentified assailants on Tuesday evening at Kumargaon, 8 kilo metres from Sarbhog police station in Barpeta district. Some unidentified youths went to the house of Das, who was the gaonbira of the village and called him outside. When he went out, they shot him dead. In a response, the likes of which we have not seen in the last few decades, both the Government of Uttarakhand and the Government of India responded to 76 years old Dr. G. D. Agarwal's fast-unto-death. Assam flood situation remains critical; relief rescue on

The overall flood situation in Assam continues to remain critical on Wednesday as some more areas are reeling under the flood waters of the river Brahmaputra and its tributaries rendering as many as four lakh people homeless in seven districts. According to information, some fresh areas have been inundated in lower Assam where the river Beki was playing havoc, forcing panic stricken villagers to abandon their houses. An uneasy situation is prevailing in Dhubri district for a string of untoward incidents that took place when All Koch Rajbanshi Students Union was running its 1000 hour economic blockade in the lower Assam district. Assam flood situation continues to remain grave

The over all flood situation in Assam remains critical with the flood waters of the mighty Brahmaputra and its tributaries are spilling into some more areas. Lakhs of people marooned after the breach of the Matmoira dyke in Lakhimpur district are still staying in the makeshift camps and relief and rescue operations are in progress.
