Two people were killed in two separate incidents in Assam on Tuesday night. A Panchayat body president in Amguri in upper Assam’s Sivasagar district, Hemanta Baruah was shot dead by a few miscreants near his resident Haluwating at around 10 at night on Tuesday. Police have yet to ascertain the reason. In yet another incident, one Himanshu Das, 42 years, was killed by unidentified assailants on Tuesday evening at Kumargaon, 8 kilo metres from Sarbhog police station in Barpeta district. Some unidentified youths went to the house of Das, who was the gaonbira of the village and called him outside. When he went out, they shot him dead. The police later recovered 4 empty cartridges of AK 56 rifle from the spot.
