Two people were killed in two separate incidents in Assam on Tuesday night. A Panchayat body president in Amguri in upper Assam’s Sivasagar district, Hemanta Baruah was shot dead by a few miscreants near his resident Haluwating at around 10 at night on Tuesday. Police have yet to ascertain the reason. In yet another incident, one Himanshu Das, 42 years, was killed by unidentified assailants on Tuesday evening at Kumargaon, 8 kilo metres from Sarbhog police station in Barpeta district. Some unidentified youths went to the house of Das, who was the gaonbira of the village and called him outside. When he went out, they shot him dead. The police later recovered 4 empty cartridges of AK 56 rifle from the spot.
Lakhipur Alongbar lifted the Bigrai Mushahary (Daokha) memorial footballtrophy defeating Simbargaon Bithorai Club 4-0 in Monday’s final match at Bismuri ground in Kokrajhar.
For Alongbar, Pideve Basumatary scored first goal in 33 minutes and led the team 1-0 in the first half. Again for Alongbar, Nipun Basumatary, Kwrwmdao Brahma and Nipson Basumatary scored one each goal in 43 minutes, 52 minutes and 62 minutes respectively in the second half and won the trophy.
Kwrwmdao Brahma of Alongbar wax adjusted ax best player in the trophy and awarded cash 1,000 and a trophy. BTC executive member Rajib Brahma who attended aschief guest handed overtrophy and Rs.8,000 in cash. Social worker Girish Chandra Narzary gave away runners up trophy and Rs. 5,000 in cash.
Two persons died and three others injured in a road mishap when a speeding truck hit another loaded truck parked on the roadside of NH37 at Daranggiri in Goalpara district on Saturday morning. Sources said that the truck (AR 09A/2853), heading towards Guwahati, hit another parked truck (WB 73B/8257) at around 4.00 am. The collision was so powerful that the parked truck was turned over roadside and the other truck hit a house neasrby the spot. One of the deceased was identified as Atowar Rahman, the driver of the parked truck, but the other is yet to be identified. Police said that the driver of the hitting truck escaped immediately after the accident took place.
The city based ARH Diabetes Centre, a branch of Chennai based Dr A Ramachandran’s Diabetes Hospitals, has organized a free diabetes screening & awareness camp for the member-journalists of Guwahati Press Club (GPC) on 14 November 2016. Organized on the occasion of World Diabetes Day at press club premises, the camp will facilitate the participants various investigations like sugar test, lipid testing, blood pressure, BMI, diabetes screening, nerve testing and diet counseling. The participants are requested to arrive at press club at 9 am on Monday with empty stomach. Otherwise, they can go for random sugar test and other experiments, informed Dr Rupam Choudhury of ARH Diabetes Centre adding that the camp will continue at GPC hall number 2 till 12 noon.
