We are proud of you Mr. Mahadev Deka for bringing laurels to our state. Though miles away from home, such rare feat of achievement by any person from our native really makes the banner of Assam fly high and higher. Congrats once again!

This is last year news. He was runner up in Mr Universe 2008. Just 2 days back this year 2009, he has won the Mr. Universe. What about that news? Who has written these comments so late, after 1 year??

he is the trainer of our gym,,,i c him everyday,,,he is a very good human being..we r very much proud to c him...bt at the same time it feels so bad that the day he won the title the whole i was sittin in front of tv to c him...bt not a single news chanel has covered this story...except a local news chanel ie NE TV

It is indeed a proud moment for India and Assam, I am overjoyed by this exciting news and in fact took the pride in informing lots of my friends at office about this glorious achievement by Mr Mahadev Deka. I would like to congratulate Mr Mahadev Deka and would like him to reach more landmarks in coming years.

Its a great honour and respect to all the North eastern people...n an enthusiasm for all the youth..Mr Mahadev Deka showed us the way that everythig is possible... hope more of us (North east) folks was inspired by his success....n will always believe tht we also can reach the goal one day. I remember the first time I met Mahadeb sir. I had joined a gym for the first time in my life, and by sheer luck, he happened to be my coach. On my first day, it was he who saw me crash on my chest after 2 pushups, I was that weak. But then he worked his magic, and in 6 - 8 months, I was working out with significantly heavier weights each time, culminating in a point where, though I would not have qualified for any tournament, I was as fit as an athlete. So here's a big thank you to Mr. Mahadeb Deka. We'll always be proud of you, sir :)

Bird flu in city; admn restrict sale and purchase of poultry

The killer bird flu is dispersing to some more areas that could force the authorities to expand the culling operation.According to information, in the city also bird flu is being detected in Khanapara area. After being confirmed it, the Kamrup district administration has banned import and export of poultry. Major blast averted in Goalpara

A major explosion was averted beside a theatre show when army recovered a powerful bomb in front of the West Goalpara College on Wednesday morning. According to information, having seen some suspicious materials inside a basket, local residents informed it to Army's No 3 Sikh Regiment who recovered it in the wee hours and took it away to a safe place. Immediately after it, the bomb left off this morning before it was defused. Investigation is on. It is believed that the bomb was targeted at the audience of the theatre which was running till on Wednesday morning.

Normalcy set to restore in Karbi Anglong as KLNLF suspends blockade

Life in the simmering Karbi Anglong district is believe to limp back to normalcy as the KLNLF is withdrawing the indefinite rail and road blockade from Tuesday.According to information, the Karbi militant outfit has decided to withdraw it for 21 days in view of the inconvenience of the people in general. During the last eleven days-the rail and road blockade has thrown normal life out of gear besides leaving a string of sporadic incidents.Hours after the indefinite economic blockade came to force the Karbi militant outfit trigged a powerful blast inside the passenger train in Diphu where 3 persons dead and over 30 were left injured. Strike for Justice by ABSU

It is really a matter of shame that the culprits who are involved in the rape against two indigenous ladies in the Udalguri district are yet to be arrested. Civil Society organisations in different parts of Assam have demanded for the arrests of the culprits and provide justice to the victims. The central committee of All Bodo Students Union (ABSU) tagged a three hour Dharna in the Dispur Last Gate on 5th December demanding justice to the rape victims. The demands also included providing adequate relives to the victims of clash in Darrang and Udalguri district of Assam. Devastating fire in the city; 100 houses gutted

A devastating fire that broke out in Guwahati’s Machkhowa area on Sunday evening has reduced over 100 houses to ashes with properties worth lakhs of rupees burnt to black coal. The incident took place at Kolgoli area at around 6-30 in the evening. Immediate cause of the fire has yet to be ascertained. Minutes after fire broke out inside a small house, it took a devastating turn and engulfed adjacent houses. There were sounds of blasts of LPG cylinders heard in the area. Several fire tenders were rushed to the spot but by then over 100 houses had already been reduced to ashes. Over 500 people have been left homeless. Fire tenders are till working to bring the situation under control.

ULFA's 709th cadre killed in Kokrajhar

ULFA has lost one more cadre of its 709th battalion. According to information, hardcore cadre Tapan Roy was killed during a joint operation by army and police at Belguri in Kokrajhar district of west Assam on Friday. He was known to be from the fatal 709th battalion. An AK series rifle, a magazine and some live ammunition have also been recovered from his possession.

Gogoi for stringent law to tackle terror in Assam

Rattled by the recent serial blast, the Assam government is considering more teeth in the laws to deal with terror saying that the existing laws are not enough to serve the purpose.Addressing a press conference in Dispur on Thursday, Assam Chief Minister said the he would soon approach the Centre to raise the demand for an NSG-like police commando to efficiently tackle terror.Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi said, “need of the hour is a set of more harsh and stringent laws to tackle these elements more efficiently and more firmly. Blast in train at Diphu: 3 dead, 50 injured

Three persons died and over 50 have been injured when a powerful bomb exploded at a passenger train in Diphu Railway station early in the morning on Tuesday. According to information, the blast took place at the 901 Lumding-Tinsukia UP train. The time device bomb was planted inside the Coach No 8209. One person died on the spot and the injured have been shifted to the Diphu civil hospital. Immediately after the incident, police arrived on the spot. Investigation is on. The blast is suspected to be a handiwork of KLNLF.
