We are proud of you Mr. Mahadev Deka for bringing laurels to our state. Though miles away from home, such rare feat of achievement by any person from our native really makes the banner of Assam fly high and higher. Congrats once again!

This is last year news. He was runner up in Mr Universe 2008. Just 2 days back this year 2009, he has won the Mr. Universe. What about that news? Who has written these comments so late, after 1 year??

he is the trainer of our gym,,,i c him everyday,,,he is a very good human being..we r very much proud to c him...bt at the same time it feels so bad that the day he won the title the whole i was sittin in front of tv to c him...bt not a single news chanel has covered this story...except a local news chanel ie NE TV

It is indeed a proud moment for India and Assam, I am overjoyed by this exciting news and in fact took the pride in informing lots of my friends at office about this glorious achievement by Mr Mahadev Deka. I would like to congratulate Mr Mahadev Deka and would like him to reach more landmarks in coming years.

Its a great honour and respect to all the North eastern people...n an enthusiasm for all the youth..Mr Mahadev Deka showed us the way that everythig is possible... hope more of us (North east) folks was inspired by his success....n will always believe tht we also can reach the goal one day. I remember the first time I met Mahadeb sir. I had joined a gym for the first time in my life, and by sheer luck, he happened to be my coach. On my first day, it was he who saw me crash on my chest after 2 pushups, I was that weak. But then he worked his magic, and in 6 - 8 months, I was working out with significantly heavier weights each time, culminating in a point where, though I would not have qualified for any tournament, I was as fit as an athlete. So here's a big thank you to Mr. Mahadeb Deka. We'll always be proud of you, sir :)

Gogoi hopes gas cracker project to be completed in time

Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi said the gas cracker project at Lepetkota in Dibrugarh would be completed in time . The Chief Minister on Sunday visited the multi-crore project and reviewed its progress with high level officers. The senior officials of the project explained the progress of work with a map during the discussion. He admitted that various reasons forced delay in the project but of late, it is progressing rapidly.Prime minister Manmohan Singh laid the cornerstone of the multi-crore project in April 26, 2006.. The prime minister announced that the project would be completed within a period of five years.

Avian flu spreading to Lakhimpur, Sivasagar

The government is considering a hike compensation for the culled poultry even as two more districts in Assam were suspected to have been affected by the avian flu. The authorities have already rushed teams to Sibsagar and North Lakhimpur district.Addressing a press conference in Guwahati, Union Veterinary and Animal Husbandry Secretary N Gokulram said blood samples of the birds from the two districts were sent for tests to laboratories in Pune and Bhopal.Sibsagar and North Lakhimpur districts, however, were fresh areas where the avian influenza was suspected to have dispersed. Poultry culling in progress as bird flu dispersing

Authorities in Assam have beefed up poultry culling in several parts of the state as the killer bird flu is further dispersing in the state. A high level central government delegation is in the state to asses the over all situation.Altogether nine districts have so far sounded alert in view of the outbreak of the disease and sale and purchase of poultry and poultry products have been strictly prohibited to avert a major disaster in case the virus inflicts to human body.Several persons have so far been arrested in the city during the last two days for continuing the deal in poultry despite the ban clamped by the government. 3 hardcore DHD(J) rebels flee from Haflong jail

P Chidambaram to visit Assam soon

Union home minister P Chidambaram will soon visit Assam to take stock of the situation prevailing in the state.Disclosing this on Wednesday in Delhi Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi said, early in the day, he called on the Union home minister and apprised him of the state's law and order situation.According to Gogoi, when urged Chidambaram assured him that the Centre will not withdraw additional security forces from the state and that if need be the Centre is ready to rush some more forces to deal with the situation.It is learnt that Chidambaram is agreed to set up an NSG hub for the north eastern region in Guwahati.
