Protest rally organized against rapist

 A protest rally was organised at Gossaigaon of Kokrajhar district on Friday by Lower Assam NGO Forum a conglomeration of civil society organizations working in different districts lower Assam districts in collaborations with hundreds of children’s club members in protest against the barbaric rape of 3 years and 2 months old child.

The ralliest with banner, festone, placards shouted slogans and demanded early book of culprit and punished . The NGO worker and common publics urged the police administration to take stern action into incident which has been created resented among society in the district. 

The girl was playing with some of her friends in the vicinity of their homes, Aasan Ali, age 20 years son of Md. Samsul Haque resident of Hasraobari village under Gossaigaon PS in Kokrajhar, on false promise of plucking and giving Tamarind fruit, took the girl to his bedroom, locked the room and raped her for almost an hour. The parent and her relatives filed an FIR with the Sapkhata Police Outpost seeking justice for their minor daughter, but no arrest have been made so far. Knowing about filing the FIR, entire family of the culprit fled from their home and since then have been hiding.

Local peoples said the police had hardly done anything except picking up the uncle of the culprit for questioning and released him immediately.

The workers of North East Research & Social Work Networking (NERSWN) a local NGO helped the victim’s family to lodge a complaint with the Chairperson of District Child Welfare Committee and requested for help. The CWC has taken note of the complain and promised for necessary action.

Not seeing the visible action by police and other concern stakeholders, the Lower Assam NGO Forum, as part of the observation of 4th March Child Protection Day 2016, has organized a massive rally demanding justice for the little girl and also protection for every child in the country.

 Mijink Brahma, convenor of the forum said “If a 3 years and 2 months old girl is also not spared, how can all of us be safe? We need justice for this child. We need protection of every child in this country. While we are celebrating 4th March Child Protection Day in Assam, this little girl is decrying for justice. We demand immediate arrest of the culprit and strongest possible punishment for him, or else we will intensify our movement”

Raju Kumar Narzary,NGO activist said,“This case is a perfect example of how our children are vulnerable to extreme violence. The state and society at large needs to take much more comprehensive action for creating protective environment for our children which is already mandated by United Nation’s Conventions on Rights of the Child and India being one of responsible signatory of this convention is duty bound to do its bit for protection of children”.

The rally came to an end by speech from Children leaders, Social Activist and Key people from the Community. The participants of the rally also have decided to launch far more vigorous movement if immediate stern action is not taken against the culprit.

A self styled deputy commander in chief of Kamatapur Liberation Organization (KLO) was killed in an encounter with security forces at Shiljan area in Kokrajhar district today. He was identified as Dibakar Barman alias Anupal. A pistol, two grenades and live ammunition were recovered from him.  He was Myanmar military trained leader of the militant outfit organization.
