AASAA stages dharna in Kokrajhar

Hundreds of activists of All Adivasi Students Association of Assam(AASAA) and common publics of Adivasi community staged sit-in-demonstartion with banner,festoon and placards at Children Park(near DRDA office) today in Kokrajhar to put pressure government while granting of Scheduled Tribe(ST) status to Adivasi community in Assam.

The agitators shouted slogans demanding early inclusion of Adivasi community in ST status which has comprises of Santhal, Mundas, Kharias, Gonds, Pans, Prajas, Bheels, Koyas, Bhumij, Ho, Kissans, Paharias, Lohars.The students association strongly urged the government to take bold step to facilitate ST status to Adivasis before Assam assembly election, otherswise the students association have compelled to take vigorous mass agitation in near future.

Later, the students association submitted a memorandum to Prime Minister Narendra Modi through Deputy Commissioner, Kokrajhar demanding early accord of ST status to Adivasis.

Stephen Lakra,vice-president of the AASAA told that the students association has been demanding for ST status,besides making economic development in the state since 1996,yet no such developmental spirits was taken for the community.He has slammed both state and centre government for not taking any stern action into community demands which are regarded as genuine demand and issues.He has urged the government to accord ST status to Adivasis in the state of Assam and make feasibility to bring healthy unity and development in Assam.

Sephanuel Mardi, president,Salim Minz,secretary of Kokrajhar district unit AASAA, Francis Chermako, joint secretary of AASAA were prominent attendees on the programme.
