UG Brahma hails Bodo Kachari council

The United People’s Party (UPP) has welcome the chief minister’s announcement of creation of development council for the Bodo Kachari people living outside of Bodoland Territorial Area District(BTAD).

Speaking the reporters on Saturday in Kokrajhar, Urkhao Gwra, president of UPP hailling gesture of chief minister Tarun Gogoi said that  his party  welcome  the  gesture of the state govt.

‘We welcome the chief minster’s gesture’, Brahma, however said the announcement should have done inclusive taking confidence of intellectuals, community leaders.Government must take the step to ensure that there is a consensus among the people, he said.

The chief minister Tarun Gogoi on Friday announced the creation of six development councils  Bodo-Kachari and Karbi people living outside the BTAD and the Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council-governed areas, besides for Kalita, Brahmin, Joldha Muslims, respectively.

Brahma said though they are dark about the structure of these councils, he said it should be with clear cut demarcation and specific power. He said the Bodo people outside the BTAD too need safety and security to develop their culture, tradition beside political security and the autonomous council should have proper demarcated boundary with specific power.

Brahma,on the preparation about  ensuing Assembly election  said that the UPP party  has prepared to contest in 17 constituencies in the assembly election. He said the first list of candidate is likely to be announce by January 20 next.

Brahma said, the 11 district committees of the party have been instructed to select consensus candidate by 15 January next.

On question of alliance or understanding with other party, he said that his party is ready for tactical understanding with those who agree to certain conditions of the party in other constituencies. He said that  the UPP and its allies are influential in 20-25 constituencies all over the state. Saying that the party though a new one is serious and all out for the election, he is confidence that ‘the UPP is clear enough about the prospect because of its distinct commitments towards the solutions of the burning, political and non-political problems of the state’.
