Anti-social acts in Nagaon on the rise; Administration on sleep
In the name of modernization and with the blessings of a section of fraudulent businessmen and their henchmen, there is a sharp rise in illicit trafficking of contraband ganja, locally made liquor, besides operation of dirt-game (
teer khel), open selling of pornographic CD's, gambling and other anti-social activities at various places of Nagaon.
During the investigation carried on by Assam Times correspondent, it is witnessed at certain places that these activities are creating an adverse affect on the populace, especially school or college-going students. It came to light during investigation that a few policemen are also involving in these activities. It is worth mentioning that with the involvement of these youngsters as prey, the lobby with the help of administration is reaping handsome profits thereby making the innocents to go astray.
Though there are a number of socio-political organisations in nagaon, they all seem to turn a deaf ear to the illicit business.

The delay in the construction of two bridges at Raha under four-lane express highway project remains a cause for serious concern. The construction of the bridges is, being done by Madhucon, moving at a snail’s pace, putting a large number of vehicle users to hardship. A major part of the highway is also kept blocked with gravel, sand,chips and soil resulting in fatal accidents becoming commonplace on the stretch and traffic snarls becoming routine. A three year old baby elephant was brutally killed by a group of senseless mob near Jagiroad in Morigaon district on October 26 . According to the eyewitness,the calf with severe injury missed the herd and was loitering alone with a painful body in the swampy area of a village. Seeing the calf at such a condition, the group of villagers soon attacked the calf with sharp weapons like knife, axe bamboo etc. sticks and beaten it unto death. Traffic movement in the Raha town bazzar area has become extremely difficult due to deplorable road condition for the last 2 years. About 500 dwellers of Raha bazzar area are suffering badly as the Public Works Department (PWD) is not taking any measure to repair the damaged road. In view of growing criminal activities, the Chapormukh Police Outpost was set up to curb the same many years ago.Unfortunately, manpower crisis,lack of vehicles, poor infrustucture are the three major problems being faced by the Outpost since its establishment.
