I will continue my writing: Brajendra Kumar Brahma

Noted poet,writer and former president of the Bodo Sahitya Sabha (BSS), Brajendra Kumar Brahma says that he would continue writing in the field of literary towards building of healthy Bodo literature in his whole life.

Brahma, a soft spoken expressing his happiness after winning of the Sahitya Academy award for his poetry book ‘Baidi Dengkhw Baidi Gab’ this year in Bodo section told that the award recognized him from nation level has encouraged him to write more in his life.

‘I would continue my writings till my death as because poem writing is the my ‘first love’ and creations in the field of Bodo litetary will be the last respiration till death’, said Brahma.  

The poem book,which brought academy  award for Brahma, was published by Bodo Sahitya Sabha in 2012 during the sabha session held at Chekamari of West Bengal.

 Brajendra,who was former president of the Bodo Sahitya Sabha (BSS), had earlier bagged the Tagore Literary Award, 2009, of the Sahitya Akademi for his book Raithai Mala, a collection of poems, which was published in 2006.

A winner of three awards till date, Brahma was born on June 1, 1943 at Chalani Batabari village in Kokrajhar district. He passed his matriculation in 1959 from Sakti Ashram Vocational High School, BA in 1968 from St Edmund’s College, Shillong and BT in 1977 from Goalpara Government BT College.Brahma,took retired as Headmaster from Banargaon High School in 2000 and associated with various literary works and social activities.

He has been associated with the Bodo Sahitya Sabha since long, besides served as its joint secretary during 1986-89 and 1990-92. During 1986-88, he was the vice-president of the Bodo Writers’ Academy, then an adviser of the same, and subsequently the president of the BSS during 2002-04 and 2005-07 for terms. He was also the chief editor of Gwdan Giyan, a monthly GK in Bodo, and the chief editor of Somni Agan, a monthly magazine of Bodo poetry.

Hundreds of AASAA activists and tea estate labours gathered at a dharna programme here at Magurmari ground today in Kokrajhar demanding wages hike from Rs 94 to 330 on daily basis, sufficient facilities to the tea estate labours.  The dharna programme was organized by the AASAA central committee.
