Protests against AKRSU

Students from various colleges and University including Kokrajhar Govt College, Bodoland University strongly reacted with demonstration to protest against the activities taken out by Hiteswar Barman led AKRSU over the issue of entry and felicitation to Descendants of Mech Kings on November 16 at a programme in Kokrajhar.

The students community expressed their resentment as AKRSU had burnt effigies of Dr Shekar Brahma, Registrar of Bodoland University, Dr Binay Kumar Brahma, principal of Kokrajhar Govt College on Wednesday in Chirang district following felicitation to Mech Kings in Kokrajhar recently.

The students community from various colleges, Bodoland University gathered in front of the university with banner, festoone and placards and shouted slogans demanding early apologies from Hiteswar Barman, president of AKRSU citating that felicitation to Descendrmt of Mech Kings was not wrong act, because they were the area kings of Mongolian groups and they are son soil in the state. 

Anjalu Basumatary, a student scholar of University and Dwimalu Mushahary, a student have termed the activities carried out by AKRSU was unfortunate and claimed that Prithiraj Narayan Dev Mech and his forefathers are belongs to Mech Kingdom. They said that protest showing from AKRSU against Bodo scholars were unaccetable and unbearful for commuinty generations. They have demnaded Hiteswar Barman and his associates should apologize and held healthy and unity among communities in the region.

Int'l Theatre Festival held in Kokrajhar

The Mwihur International Theatre Festival has ended in Kokrajhar, Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR). The seven-day festival took place at the Bodofa Cultural Complex, Chandamari. With extending support to the United People's Party ahead scheduled Assam assembly election on April 11 next, Rafikul Sheik, vice president of Kokrajhar district committee of AIUDF joined in UPP at a party meeting at Fakiragram under Kokrajhar west LAC in Kokrajhar district on Sunday.  Sheik along with his party supporters joined the party in the presence of huge party supporters and extended supports to the party.  'His joined the UPP party will blow a setback to the AIUDF party', said a political analyst.   

NDFB-S ultra held

Security forces apprehend a NDFB(S) cadre from Basabil area under Gossaigaon PS on Sunday in Kokrajhar district. Based on information about the presence of the militant outfit cadres in the area, a joint team of police and army launched an operation where a listed cadre of Gossaigaon platoon of the NDFB(S) was arrested along with arms. He was identified as Sanjay Narzary of Borsabil village. A pistol, two round ammunition was recovered from him.

The Bodoland People’s Front (BPF) has left three constituencies- Sorbhog, Rangia and Bhawanipur to the Bharatiya Janata party (BJP), its ally party.
