Prasant to help Gogoi retain power!

Much to a major boost for Congress in rank and file in Assam, Prashant Kishore has agreed to help the ruling party in the assembly polls March next year.

The brain behind the grand alliance in Bihar, who held a round of informal talks with Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi recently, left New Delhi for Guwahati on Thursday afternoon.

Sources told Assam Times in New Delhi that the poll Chanakya will hunker down with Tarun Gogoi and Rahul Gandhi on Friday to finalise the pre poll strategy when the Congress vice president will on a two days visit to the state on Friday.

"Gogoi recently talked to Prashant at the instance of Rahulji who agreed, in principle, to help Gogoi retain the power in Dispur," said a senior AICC leader.

Notably, former Chief Minister and AGP leader Prafulla Kumar Mahanta met Kishore in the capital on Tuesday evening and discuss the strategy an anti-Congress and anti-BJP wave in Assam. Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar helped Mahanta met the poll strategist at the Bihar Bhawan in the evening.

TINSUKIA: The Tinsukia police have averted a huge explosion in the state as they seized some explosive materials from a passenger bus in Jagun on Wednesday. Acting on a tip off, a police team in Jagun conducted a checking on the bus which was coming from Arunachal Pradesh where a huge cache of RDX was found inside a bag. GUWAHATI:All party legislators are hunkering down in Guwahati on Wednesday to break the logjam over NRC after the Centre sought the Supreme Court's permission to extend the date to publish thr draft. Assam assembly Speaker Hitendra Nath Goswami is presiding over the crucial meeting of the legislators to discuss the ongoing controversy where the various organizations and opposition parties have called it a calculated conspiracy to include the names of the Hindu Bangladeshi immigrants in the NRC draft. TANGLA:Yet another wild elephant died a hard death three days after it sustained injury inside a dense jungle along the Indo-Bhutan border in Udalguri district on Tuesday. A firewood collector discovered the full grown animal three days back and passed the information to the forest department. But of no avail. GUWAHATI: A special court in Guwahati on Tuesday remanded 14 ACS and APS officers to judicial custody after the end of their 14 days police custody in connection with the APSC scam. The Dibrugarh police probing the scam produced these officers before the special court in the morning and sought no extension of their demand. GOLAGHAT: Tension starts escalating along the Assam-Nagaland border in Golaghat district where the neighbouring north eastern state opened a new sub division in some areas under the territory of Assam. GUWAHATI:President Ramnath Kovind who is on a three days visit to the north eastern region visited the Kamakhya temple and offered puja to the goddess. Accompanied by his wife, the President arrived in the ancient shrine atop the Nilachal at 10 in the morning and sought blessings from the goddess Kamakhya. GUWAHATI:A popular actor and director of an entertainment channel in Guwahati has been sent to jail acting on a complaint of domestic violence. According to police, Manjeet Sarma, who is in direction of a few popular serial was sent to jail after he was arrested on Monday. Acting on a complaint filed by his wife Trishna Sarma, Manjeet was interrogated at the Chandmari police station and was arrested. Trishna in her complaint accused him of trying to kill her because his illicit affair with Prastuti Parashar, an allegation vehemently denied by the popular actor who threatened to move the court with a defamation suit.  
KOKRAJHAR: Hundreds of home guards engaged in the various government offices in the BTAD areas have staged dharma in Kojrajhar raising a set of demands on Monday. With banners and festoones they agitated home guards thronged in front of the DC office and staged dharna raising their demands. They said that they were underpaid and that too are not paid regularly. They further threatened to intensify the stir if the government remains mute.
