Much to a major boost for Congress in rank and file in Assam, Prashant Kishore has agreed to help the ruling party in the assembly polls March next year.
The brain behind the grand alliance in Bihar, who held a round of informal talks with Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi recently, left New Delhi for Guwahati on Thursday afternoon.
Sources told Assam Times in New Delhi that the poll Chanakya will hunker down with Tarun Gogoi and Rahul Gandhi on Friday to finalise the pre poll strategy when the Congress vice president will on a two days visit to the state on Friday.
"Gogoi recently talked to Prashant at the instance of Rahulji who agreed, in principle, to help Gogoi retain the power in Dispur," said a senior AICC leader.
Notably, former Chief Minister and AGP leader Prafulla Kumar Mahanta met Kishore in the capital on Tuesday evening and discuss the strategy an anti-Congress and anti-BJP wave in Assam. Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar helped Mahanta met the poll strategist at the Bihar Bhawan in the evening.

TINSUKIA: The Tinsukia police have averted a huge explosion in the state as they seized some explosive materials from a passenger bus in Jagun on Wednesday. Acting on a tip off, a police team in Jagun conducted a checking on the bus which was coming from Arunachal Pradesh where a huge cache of RDX was found inside a bag. The police then questioned the driver, assistants of the bus along with the passengers. But later the passengers were allowed to go and detained the driver and his assistants for further interrogation. "Investigation is going on. GUWAHATI: A special court in Guwahati on Tuesday remanded 14 ACS and APS officers to judicial custody after the end of their 14 days police custody in connection with the APSC scam. The Dibrugarh police probing the scam produced these officers before the special court in the morning and sought no extension of their demand. GUWAHATI:President Ramnath Kovind who is on a three days visit to the north eastern region visited the Kamakhya temple and offered puja to the goddess. According to police, Manjeet Sarma, who is in direction of a few popular serial was sent to jail after he was arrested on Monday. Acting on a complaint filed by his wife Trishna Sarma, Manjeet was interrogated at the Chandmari police station and was arrested. KOKRAJHAR: Hundreds of home guards engaged in the various government offices in the BTAD areas have staged dharma in Kojrajhar raising a set of demands on Monday.
