Jumbos ransack walls at Tangla

A herd of 4 to 5 wild elephants damaged railway quarter walls and created a havoc in the entire  Pujakhola Tiniali area in  Tangla on Saturdy at about 1.55 am. The elephants also damaged sugarcane crops in nearby area. No loss of life have been reported.

In a joint operation of Red Horns division of the Army  of  Borengajuli camp and Assam Police of Dimakuchi PS apprehended  6 hardcore cadres of National Liberation Front of Bengali on Sunday night. The cadres have been identified as Magesh Singh,Uttam Das,Tapash Pal,Dhiren Das,Nilkomal Biswas and Dilip Sarkar. Four 7.65 mm pistols and 3 rifle along with 48 rounds of live ammunition of all calibres have also been recovered from their possesion .All the cadres are a resident of Kacharidag  under Khoirabari PS of Udalguri district.  
A 21 year old youth was arrested for allegedly killing a minor girl at Tarajuli village under Rowta PS in Udalguri district. The body of 16 year old victim has been identified as that of Bimla Devi of the same village, was dug out from the bank of Dhansiri river. The accused,identified as Rishiram Sarmah,allegedly buried the body after killing her on January 20 last. The Rowta police got the lead after tracing the mobile phone of the accused. In prima-facie love affair between the two is suspected to be the reason behind the killing. However the police is interrogating the accused for other angles.

The 61 battalion of SSB stationed at Bhairabkunda of Udalguri district has seized 6382 kilogram of cannabis (ganja) from the area in 2015. A total of 123 persons were arrested involved in illegal trade of cannabis including timber smuggling. A total of 1582 kilogram ganja was seized only in the current month till January 19.
