No war against India: ULFA-I

ULFA-I uses guerrilla tactic only for self defence and not for waging any war against India, said Dr Abhizeet Asom.

In a message sent to media on the Protest Day on Saturday, the ULFA-I chairman said that the outfit has been struggling to save the rights of the indigenous people of Assam.

According to the elusive ULFA-I leader, the "immature" student leaders who spearheaded the Assam Agitation surrendered before New Delhi when they signed an accord to deport Bangladeshi aliens in 1985 with Rajiv Gandhi.

"However, India in contrast is seeking military solution to our legitimate struggle to establish our birthright as enshrined in international statues and our indigenous masses are responding to the call of the hour to own what belong to them," said the ULFA supremo.

He further spoke of the India, Bangladesh land deal with reference to the history of East Pakistan. The outfit also said that the move to give refugee status to the non-Muslim Bangladeshis are strange.

Dispur is ready to appoint 12,000 more teachers in the state. Education minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma told reporters on Wednesday that a list of 12000 teachers of high schools in 22 districts would be available at 12 noon on Thursday. After one week, the appointment orders would be sent to the TET successful candidates to enable them to join in mid-April.

A truck driver was killed and five others have been injured when two trucks collided heads on in the out skirt of Guwahati on Wednesday. The mishap took place at Sarutezpur at around 7.30 where a truck carrying sand collided its head on another truck. One person died on the spot while five others have been sent to the Guwahati Medical College Hospital in critical condition.
Two bikers were killed at a tragic mishap in the outskirt of Guwahati on Wednesday. The mishap took place near Boko in the morning when the bikers were crushed to death by a vehicle. Identified as Manoj Rabha and Nirav Rabha, the bikers died on the spot.
Kamrup district administration on Monday prohibited the sale of Assamese attires made of genuine Assam Silk and imported Benarasi silk in the same shop from Monday in the district.The order was notified by Deputy Commissioner S K Roy under Section 144 of the CrPC. The silk clothes would have to be sold in separate shops with signboards clearly stating which variety was being stocked.For protection of the local silk industry, the administration would also search for artificial silk clothes. The process for trade-marking the Sualkuchi silk would also be initiated.
Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi on Monday made it clear that his son Gaurav Gogoi was never involved in syndicate.Talking to  reporter in the Assam assembly premise on Monday, Gogoi said that the allegations are baseless and that if the baseless charges are leveled again he would move the court.

Chief minister Tarun Gogoi on Monday indirectly blamed Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma for the Sualkuchi violence.Talking to reporters in the sidelines of the Assembly, Gogoi said that the MLA did not apprise him of the real problems of the silk weavers.
